I was recently taking a journey that included a stint along the NW coast line, and wanted to check the running times of the loco-hauled "Premier Train" from Cardiff to Holyhead, in case I could somehow devise my schedule to include a trip on it.
I was struck by how little information there is...
Can anyone tell me what routing conditions apply to these tickets?
- Is it "any permitted"?
- Also, are they marked "London Terminals" or "London Euston"?
- And finally...can I break the journey overnight as per normal off-peak tickets; ie as long as I continue the journey before 12...
So I have booked via Eurostar a ticket from London to Bourg St Maurice (French Alps) and return. Changing trains at Paris.
On the return trip I may well want to join the train somewhere other than the start point on the ticket (ie. an intermediate stop between BSM and Paris).
Can anyone...
I'm going to be making a trip over to Dublin, which I usually do via Holyhead, but I'm thinking of doing it via Fishguard/Rosslare for a change.
There appears to be a ferry that arrives in Rosslare at 1800, but it also appears to be the case that the last train to Dublin from Rosslare...
Have just been checking my options for a return journey London-Glasgow and looking on the Virgin website they are offering an "Off peak single" for £54.20, which is simply half the price of an off peak return (rather than a couple of quid cheaper as has been the custom for many years).
Is...
I travelled out to Oxford from Paddington yesterday; was going to go on a Worcester service but got to the platform and it was a crappy 166. Then this evening, waiting for a fast train to Paddington (origin Great Malvern) and once again a 166! I thought these services were supposed to be HSTs or...
The concept of the 'quiet coach' is a good one, especially on longer journeys. In return for being quiet myself, everyone else is quiet and we all have an undisturbed journey. Those who don't want to be quiet just sit in another carriage and everyone's happy.
However, the reality is that not...
Sorry if this is answered somewhere else (I have done a search) but are any HSTs used on the Crosscountry services at the moment, or was that a summer timetable only thing?

60007 had brought the stock into the platform; a 47 was attached to the front and it took the train off to wherever it was going (King's Lynn I think). Shortly afterwards, the steamer backed out, off to a depot somewhere in North London reportedly.
A...
Can anyone offer any recommendations for rail related stuff worth seeing/doing in the area around Lyon/French Alps (Chambery etc)? Also the area around Clermont Ferrand / Aurillac? Lines worth travelling, interesting workings, diesel loco hauled...
Are there still any of those old railcars...
Are open access operators somehow excluded from the requirements of the passengers' charter?
I was recently on a heavily delayed (well over an hour) GC service and wrote to them asking what compensation they would offer.
I was travelling on an "any permitted route" off-peak return.
They...
I'm on a GC southbound service, sitting in the rearmost carriage. I can hear the front power car making a racket when we're leaving stations etc but the rear power car seems to be running at a constant, low level. Is this normal practice? Is it because of the short formation (only five coaches)...
Scenario:
I am at a station, in London zone 2, within a penalty fare area. The ticket office is closed but there are ticket machines. I have a London zones 1 and 2 travelcard but want to travel to somewhere outside London. The ticket I need is from Zone 2 boundary to my destination but I cannot...
I have various parts of "RL99" in PDF format but I'm assuming these are now out of date.
Can anyone tell me what the latest edition of this is, and is it available in PDF? Or is it all part of that Fares Manual CD-ROM thing now?
(What I'm wanting to know at the moment is whether the...
As I guess we all know, most TOCs seem to be very much in favour of a ticketing system based largely on people buying AP tickets which restrict them to a particular train on a particular day. This was demonstrated by the recent "simpler fares" nonsense where the purchase of AP tickets was made a...
I'm wondering what chance I have of claiming compensation under the passenger's charter for the following:
I have an Inverness to London super off peak return.
On my return leg I broke my journey overnight at Glasgow. The intention was then to continue to Newcastle (and break my journey again...
I know that my Scotland to London "any permitted" ticket is valid via Walsall and Birmingham as per map AS in the routeing guide.
Tame Bridge Parkway is as far as I can make out on the route (or a route) from Walsall to Birmingham.
Am I therefore correct in thinking I am OK to break my...
I'm currently working on making some complaints - to various bodies - about the recent so-called "fares simplification".
In putting this together it's obviously important that any information I use is accurate. I can check current fares and validities (to some extent at least) on the NRE...
