Eastern France - anything worth seeing?

Can anyone offer any recommendations for rail related stuff worth seeing/doing in the area around Lyon/French Alps (Chambery etc)? Also the area around Clermont Ferrand / Aurillac? Lines worth travelling, interesting workings, diesel loco hauled...

Are there still any of those old railcars rattling around anywhere?

Any websites with French rail related stuff would be handy too.

I'm not sure about the Eastern areas, but if you go 40 miles North West from Aurillac, you get to Limoges, which was (up until last year at least) one of the last hot beds of 'Caravelle' (old-style French DMUs) units. Also, of course, a fair amount of the Corail trains (in France in general) are hauled by 1950/60s vintage electrics- eg. BB9300s around Tolouse / Bordeaux.

Thanks. Might be passing through Limoges anyway actually so I'll check that out.

I know there are still quite a few loco-hauled Corail trains knocking about but I think they are mostly with newish A/C stock, aren't they. I seem to remember there were still a few running with the older (green?) stock a year or two but can't now remember where I found the information about which routes...

I was in Lyon a few years ago and spotted some olde worlde railcars leaving Gare St Paul...

They looked the business and had loads of character...worth a visit if you're in the area.

If you want to see old railcars. You should go to the Morvan mountains.
A lots of "Caravelles" still working between Lyon and Paray le Monial, Dijon and Nevers, Etang sur Arroux and Autun.

You can also see this DMUs in Champagne-Ardennes arround Lure and in Normandy between Argentan and Dreux, and around Rouen.

Please note in few days, the SNCF will stop using vintage diesel (CC 72000) to haul Corail trains between Lyon - Tours and Lyon - Nantes.

Lyon is the last city in France where you can see vintage electrics BB 25200.

If you want, I can show you some photos.
