    Competition 439 :: Voting

    Thanks for the info Sun Chariot - I never paid much notice to DMU's back in the 1970's and 1980's, apart from the 3 car units we used to get at Didcot - and I never took a photo of one (except when something else was in the picture - see http://jinksarchive.fotopic.net/p58648921.html

    Competition 439 :: Voting

    Well done Curly42 - a very evocative pic. My pic of the overhauled DMU's was one of the very rare occasions we saw DMU's between Didcot and Swindon - there was no local service (thanks Dr. B.) and probably the only time they traversed this route was to/from Swindon for overhaul - which we...

    Competition 440 (Crossings) :: Voting

    This is one of the most difficult competitions in ages because the subject matter and location of no 2 is really unusual and well taken but number 8 has been executed superbly. Several of the others are worthy contenders too. But because of the quality of the shot, it's number 8 for me.

    How old are you?

    D11-D137 !! Old enough to remember some green 47's and 20's, bored by yet another 50, excited by yet another 52!

    There are plenty on eBay under a tenner, though the quality won't be the highest.

    How does No 4 qualify for this competition? - it's not what I would call 'single track'

    And now for something completely different ...

    Disused and freight GC lines

    Spent a day looking around Buckinghamshire at the old GC/Metropolitan/GW lines west of Princes Risborough and Aylesbury. Disused line from Ashendon Jct to Grendon Jct, GC line at Calvert, LNWR Oxford-Cambridge line at Claydon Jct and finally stoipped off at Tring for some sparky action...

    Competition 414 :: Voting

    Don't be too downhearted. Quite often those judging don't worry too much about the technicalities of a photo but the subject instead. Looking at your photo (and believe me, I'm not an expert), I would say the following: 1) quite good colour 2) tops of lamposts chopped off. 3) cropped too...

    Competition 416 :: The old school

    Shame. My old school was built hundreds of years ago but it's not on the mainline.

    Barry Island Railway fire

    Once again, the minority spoil things for the majority. Hopefully the society has the funds and manpower to rebuild it.

    Peppercorn A1 pacifics Pt 3

    It's an A2/3 I think - check the washout plugs on the firebox sides and the position of the cylinders behind the bogie truck - can't make out the number but the nameplate looks like it extends the full width of the smoke deflectors which would probably make it 60500 'Edward Thompson' It's...
