So where can one obtain a cheap tripod then, and for how much? I said before that I probably wouldn't, but the reality is that I don't have steady hands and would therefore need one to improve.

There are plenty on eBay under a tenner, though the quality won't be the highest.

Go to a Jessops shop and get one of these for a tenner. That's what I use.
