Defective ticket machines at Birmingham Moor St

I suspect - like most suggestions passed to senior management - that any kind of communication of this nature is usually roundly ignored

Trivia: Railway stations primarily accessed through shopping centres

Poznan Gl. is an adjunct to a large shopping centre - looks like a bread bin from a distance. 1784554938 I believe when the development on the other side of the bridge is finished you will be able to access the station from there

Thameslink core broken - 13th July 26 - what could be done to improve things?

They do, but TSGN just cancels ALL Brighton - Cambridges the minute there is an issue. I doubt any form of assessment is undertaken. The residual delays last till the end of service on almost every occasion, which happens when you run a service with the bare minimum of staff and zero leeway

Hauts-de-France contract won by SNCF voyageurs

Skepticism because it doesn't work. We had many decades of private sector monopoly incumbent operator that delivered a worse service at a higher cost. Penalties were just passed on to farepayers. There is no "market pressure" in any meaningful sense of the word

    National Express Coaches Discussion

Probably - I'd proactively contact them personally. Probably they will contact you one week prior to travel and invite you to book on alternative service. The ticket section also has no 1300 bus

Thameslink core broken - 13th July 26 - what could be done to improve things?

That's never coming back. I can only assume some senior manager at LNER has taken against this proposal and will resist any attempts to reinstate. Me too.

Thameslink core broken - 13th July 26 - what could be done to improve things?

If there is a "service recovery plan", there seems little evidence of it on the ground. TSGN seem to instantaneously cancel the Brighton to Cambridge trains when there are any issues at all.

    Arriva (Beds, Bucks, Herts)

When Sovereign ran the route BITD, they used these SB1 buses when the coaches weren't available, and given their age and decrepitude, they were indeed torture.

Cancelled Eurostar on Tues 14th July

Definitely call them or pop into the ticket office at St Pancras. Human intervention often results in better results

    Sunday rail travel in Germany

The hideously inaccurately named "Langer Samstag" 1783530500 The letters "SEV" on a timetable (Schienenersatzverkehr) strike fear in to the hearts of all Germans (essentially "bus replacement service")

Copenhagen 'tourist tax' on non-EU card payments

I have a couple of EU issued debit cards (Bunq from the Netherlands, ME Direct from Malta), I wonder if I could sidestep the fees by using these?

    Sunday rail travel in Germany

To recycle a cliche, it depends. DB tend to keep their own planner up to date, so if you do a search (and I beseech you to use their rather than 3rd party applications/websites), it should tell you what's running and what isn't

    Arriva (Beds, Bucks, Herts)

This was the subject of great debate in Stevenage when we had a Greenline coach to London. When the company finally relented and allowed oldies to use the service after 9.30, the same people then campaigned to be able to use their passes all day as it was "not fair to discriminate against...

Fail to stop at High Wycombe (30/06)

Oh, I had this. The train non-stopped Finsbury Park and deposited me at KGX, and the revenue control tried to fine me and various others for overriding. I am not proud to say I walked off, particularly when the RPO said "Pay the fine and we'll check it out and refund you if your story is true"

    GTR Notice to Prosecution again

Quite often have revenue protection staff at this particular lift. Much to the chagrin of fare dodgers, all of whom got on the train at Knebworth, and "the ticket machine didn't work" (and there was no stopper in the last 15 minutes...). One mildly irritating things is the same staff standing in...

    Eurostar cancellation - my rights

My experience with E* is that they play pretty fast and loose with passenger rights as regards cancellations, but conversely, if you miss your train, they are usually quite good at squeezing you onto the next train, even if it means sitting on the corridor jump seats. There was a thread recently...

They have form for saying they will reimburse but then not doing so - I presume cashflow issues. You may need to chase and threaten legal action

Trivia - Unexpected (and beneficial) station stops

Wouldn't happen nowadays but I was working in Huntingdon (living in Stevenage) and was going out in that London of an evening - I arrived at Huntingdon Station to find a 125 parked in the main platform, due to some form of disruption and the conductor invited us to join the train if we were...
