Copenhagen 'tourist tax' on non-EU card payments

I use Me_Direct (https://www.medirect.com.mt/). No complaints so far I also have a Bunq account (and card) from the Netherlands, but I don't think they accept (new) UK customers presently

    Eurostar Plus is becoming worse

Really ? I remember Virgin Trains running 2/3rds empty trains on the West Coast of an afternoon because they charged premium fares at this time and could afford to run lightly loaded trains. Virgin may charge just slightly less than Eurostar to claim they're cheaper, but fares will not plummet...

    Eurostar Plus is becoming worse

Given the "jam tomorrow approach" Beardie tends to give, I don't share people's optimism that he will actually deliver better services. He will promise to stop at Stratford and in Essex and Kent - and won't because he will expect the state to kit out all of these. He will extend services to...

Additional travel costs: who is responsible?

Been there, done that, zero effect. They're not listening. Many moons ago, I remember Thameslink GN cancelling all trains going north from Kings X and St Pancras after midnight "due to staff shortages". Staff were spoken to - politely and firmly, and informed us that they couldn't get through to...

Copenhagen 'tourist tax' on non-EU card payments

No, I can't imagine the Germans doing that *rolls eyes*. I will be checking my receipts very carefully in Germany, and taking along a EU-issued, euro-denominated card just in case.

    National Express Coaches Discussion

They probably would have charged £1 fares until they ran Flixbus off the road

Copenhagen 'tourist tax' on non-EU card payments

Spain was the absolute worst for this - "Sorry, sir, the card is British, I can only charge you in sterling" - when presented with a CaxtonFX Euro-denominated bank card. I left about €50 of shopping on the counter at El Corte Ingles when a cashier refused to charge my card in euros, and refused...

Additional travel costs: who is responsible?

"Being firm" with staff who outright refuse to do this? Which I have experienced in the past

    Kings Cross Platform Rules

The lack of such a system and the usual "advice" of "not travelling now unless necessary" or "finding an alternative route" is probably as "organised" as it gets. 1785683150 Same in Germany - the yellow (departure) notices feature it, and white arrival ones. If there is an alteration, it's...

No, it's not right. But that's modern business logic for you.

Because that's how many, many transport companies operate.

"Ongoing network optimisation and cost-efficiency programmes” Well, that's one way of framing the considerable pruning of the network

Copenhagen 'tourist tax' on non-EU card payments

Definitely non-EU issued - I have a couple of cards that allow you to carry a DKK balance (Wise, Revolut) though the issuing country is the most important.

Standard gauge trains in Russian gauge land, and platform-train interface

I believe there was a standard gauge track all the way to Kaliningrad before 2012 - EGTRE stated https://www.egtre.info/wiki/Border_Crossings:_Poland_-_Russia Braniewo PKP - Mamonowo RŽD (- Kaliningrad) [D] Two parallel single-tracks of different gauge, [see Unusual Lines entry RU20/1 for...

Chiltern planning to introduce seat reservations - Survey

I suspect another driver to this is the absolute obsession of some tourists (not just in the UK) with having seat reservations to the point where they will take a costly InterCity train for a journey that could be done on an (unreserveable) regional or local train for a fraction of the price

EMR - MD Will Rogers leaves immediately

I find some of the "dead hand of the state" implications here a bit tiresome. Apropos of the strikes and safety concerns of the RMT https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/ce8ly2k70nlo

Denmark Rejsekort smartcard replaced by Rejsekort smartphone app

I wonder if the Rejsekort app accepts non-Danish bank accounts and cards, and doesn't whack you for an out of currency charge as many Danish establishments do.

    European Sleeper experience

I'm also dismayed when people say "Well, Nightjet are just as bad", which - even if it were true - is no defence at all. We all want successful rail operators and good news stories - the problem is ES are doing stuff on the cheap and haphazard standard and hoping people won't notice.
