    Kings Cross Platform Rules

I do wish they'd open a couple of barriers to the main concourse on the right of the "forecourt" - you have to leave the station walk across the front and go back in onto the main concourse from outside. Every second counts

Avanti cancellations - is it always this bad?

As I recall - this was pre-Pendolino, it was a substantial proportion of the train maintenance staff - I'll see if I can find the Guardian article. This was prior to the Department taking a more hands on role in managing the franchise. 1786473985 I think you misunderstood - or more likely that...

Avanti cancellations - is it always this bad?

As Private Eye would say "Trebles all round!"

Avanti cancellations - is it always this bad?

Indeed. And there is no compelling reason for companies to take action, other than, you know, customer satisfaction. What fresh hell is that ?

TransPennine Express checking the appetite for charging for seat reservations?

Ha, you're lucky to get a room in the hotel if you arrive late and not be told that the hotel is full and you will need to make your way to an alternative 20 miles away.

    European Sleeper experience

To be honest, I've not seen any recently. Even the LNER ones accord to the usual train experience.

Avanti cancellations - is it always this bad?

I see much social media enraged when trains are cancelled due to staff shortages and the Great British public blame...the train drivers. "How DARE they take leave - they are paid [insert vastly inflated figure here] - it's just pressing a button, isn't it? Bully boy trade unions, isn't it ...

Avanti cancellations - is it always this bad?

Not if you recruit up to number 1786299425 Absolutely nothing. Avanti are phoning it in No, annual leave is booked months in advance to suit rotas. The problem is that many TOCs rely on rest day working/overtime to cover annual leave, rather than recruiting sufficient drivers to do so

It's obviously AI generated as the trains actually running and the carriages look spacious and well maintained

Lumo running train with no toilets

Some stuffed shirt in Lumo senior management will be being paid a bonus for "keeping the trains running" during this debacle

Lumo running train with no toilets

Long distance coach travel in Croatia and the Balkans seemed to dictate a toilet stop a maximum of 2 hours from the last. This also functioned as a fag break for a nation of chain smokers. I think that's as long as I could bear on a toilet less train.

Railcard purchased tickets without Railcard discount - fined !

I've now read 2 different posts (on Facebook) where people appear to have been fined because they purchased undiscounted, full price peak hour tickets, but did not remove the "railcard discount" when doing so. Which made zero difference to the overall fare at all, but they were fined by the...

Last bus cancelled and no help

Years ago, a friend of mine went for a job with a county council where the main function was to audit those undertaking contract work for them and suss out whether they were claiming for mileage they didn't run. This was often intelligence-led, and based on the fact that records for buses run...

    Visiting former Yugoslavian Republics

I've done Croatia to Serbia a few times, but I believe this is no longer possible - there are trains to Tovarnik in Croatia and trains from Sid in Serbia - nothing for the seven kilometres between I found this on Tripadvisor "We went by train from Belgrade to Sid. At Sid there was no public...

Train drivers’ decades-long ticket fraud ‘cost taxpayer millions

"Public sector workers" and the Telegraph, says it all really. I assume if it had been private sector workers, it would have been OK

Last bus cancelled and no help

What's morally correct and what's legal are at odds here. If the service had been contracted, and not run, then the company would I presume have been fined and/or had the money that was due to them for running the service deducted. Or both. But a commercial service, on one occasion ? I doubt any...

Copenhagen 'tourist tax' on non-EU card payments

MT I have other accounts like Wise (that give you a Belgian, Turkish, and Hungarian IBAN) but the card has a UK registered number. Revolut gives you a Polish IBAN if you have a zloty account with them, but again, the card has a UK registered number. I had an account with Bankera - a...
