In fairness I've always found TPE's 802's seats more comfortable than LNER's units, though there have been a few just lately that I've been able to feel the bar through. The covers have definitely been getting very thin, or worse, in places too. I new hard-wearing moquette's well needed.
With a reduced service they've more chance of having a spare unit available on Etches Park so can swap one out easier if it develops problems. Certainly been happening at Derby (including late departures off Etches Park due to unit issues depot, I think there was one swapped at Nottingham...
There seems to have been a bit of a ramping up of work in the Fall Lane area of Dewsbury lately. Only trouble is it means navigating that area as a pedestrian or cyclist (it's the official diversion for the Spen Valley Greenway, diverted due to Baker Viaduct construction) is a bit of a...
If it happened I could see a situation like what happened on TPE in their early recovery period where cancellations increased while crews were trained on different traction, which was ultimately wasted when one type was withdrawn, a decision taken out of TPE's hands when things had actually...
Even if 50% availability wasn't still above that of 810s EMR seemed to be getting a grip on things before they were withdrawn, sometimes even running them in pairs. What they'd be like now is another matter entirely. All pie in the sky anyway.
Worth noting that it's not just the intercity fleets having availability problems. Lots of cancellations on their local services this morning and short forms on the Connects.
In reality it was never as late as 53 minutes either, it's Way & Works Jn time as after the second Derby time, it's picked it up after it's departed Derby towards Spondon rather than when entering Derby. That's probably partly due to which line it's used departing Etches Park.
It always feels like a bit of a waste to me that the new replacement bridge over Thornhill Road, which has only been there about 10 years, will soon be replaced.
FNW ran for a couple of years to Euston, from Manchester Airport and Rochdale and they were to have worked these. When the services were dropped so were the 180s.
Platform 1's not pretty much dedicated to the Corby services, and I suspect if you cut down on their turnarounds you'd be cutting into breaks, though in theory you could go as low as 8 on those. It might work in isolation, but a big thing is if you cut them down where do you fit them into the...
Do that and you've got to accept a lower frequency service as they're unable to double up at St Pancras. Lower frequency would mean less trains required anyway.
I seem to find where exactly the issue occurs has a big impact on what type of service recovery there is, if any. Sometimes I feel issues affecting the MML are just left to work themselves out until services are approaching a hour late!
Yeah, lifts at St Pancras being out of order seems to be an ongoing thing, but it's not the only place, and faulty lifts & escalators are a problem across the country, not only on the railway. I sometimes wonder if I should retrain as a lift and escalator engineer....
On the railways though I...
Not a million miles off. This time it appears that those pouring concrete weren't exactly careful about where they were pouring it. Luckily not much made it into the tunnels/onto the 700.....
In some ways down there it's less of a tunnel, more a mix of consecutive bridges and tunnels. Is it the...
