The BBC news site reported today that trains in the West Midlands will run at reduced temperatures. Interesting! Any other examples to hand ?

New Tfl Maps released today.
On the Tube map the Elizabeth Line is shown as a purple line with a white centre to distinguish it from tube line. The Barking Riverside extension is marked with a dashed line as 'opening soon' but it hasn't appeared on the Overground map yet. Thameslink lines...
Lea Bridge station was re-opened at the insistence of the local council (London Borough of Waltham Forest) with the entrance in Argall Way instead of the main Lea Bridge Road to work with a proposed bus turnround. However the bus route extension was never agreed with TflL and did not happen. On...
Perhaps it's a bit early but does anybody know how these are working?
I had an advance ticket Portsmouth - Waterloo. Services completely suspended. There's a link on the disruption information page for refunds but
then the SW Railway refunds page says Advance tickets are not refundable.
Has the cold weather affected the National Rail Journey Planner?
This afternoon it offered me journeys from Barking(BKG) to Limehouse(LHS), a journey of 5.8 miles taking 9 minutes normally, in 5hrs 32m via Oxford and costing £64! No other choices.
Has anyone else hit anything similar?
The Hall Farm Curve on the Lea Valley lines, linking the Chingford branch with the line from Stratford has come up again in local discussions. Here is an informal report back from a Waltham Forest Public Transport Consultation Group meeting held this week.
An interesting...
It won't be news to most readers, but I was surprised to discover this week that buying tickets from Greater Anglia actually means you are buying from Trainline.
This might not seem important but if a customer has a problem with an apparently faulty ticket machine or their tickets won't print...
Quite some years ago, at a time of some service retrenchment (poss 90's I'm not sure), Liverpool St- Hertford East trains stopped calling at Clapton. Service frequency into London went down from 5 to 3 trains per hour and the connection with Tottenham Hale and the Lea Valley was lost altogether...
Coming back from the West Country yesterday on a busy train, there were some large suitcases in the bike rack space and two cyclists with booked cycle spaces got on at Exeter. They asked train staff if they could move the luggage and were told 'No, where will I put it?'. So we had bikes in...
Reports of severe overcrowding on London - Bath/Bristol services this weekend past with standing passengers crammed against each other.
Given the strict rules about foreign travel this seems a bit shocking.
Aren't there any restrictions on how many tickets relative to the number of seats...
GOBLIN westbound train was 10m late and slipping recently and they announced at Leytonstone High Rd that it would be non-stop from Blackhorse Road to Gospel Oak.
Wondering if this happens often and how much time can be made up, given the speed restrictions.
RailCoop have released proposed times for two trains a day starting 2022. They have permission for three daily returns but the SNCF hasn't been able to agree to night train times yet. The journey times are longer that hoped, but negotiations continue and apparently the regions were very...
If CR2 is seriously delayed or even cancelled is there any possibility of some CR1 trains coming up the Lea Valley via Stratford? Off-peak Shenfields seemed to be carrying a lot of air before the Covid situation hit us, at least beyond Romford. Could two of them per hour replace the...
Wondering if folk in the preserved railway world have any good alternatives to dousing the trackbed with weedkiller to keep vegetation down.
I'm asking as a committee member an association which runs a velorail (cycling trucks) line in Normandy with the odd railcar special train. The line...
Press release from the European Cyclists Federation
https://ecf.com/civicrm/mailing/view?reset=1&id=4311
A minimum number of 4 spaces is being specified for new and refurbished trains.
It doesn't say what a 'train' is, so I'm guessing it means a unit.
Will this have any currency in the UK?
This curve, which could re-link Chingford and Walthamstow to Stratford, was the subject of discussion at the Waltham Forest Public Transprt Consultative Group (online) on 22 Sept. The council are keen to move things on, especially in view of the massive developments in the area which are in...
Does anybody know anything about this engine, apparently stuck on a plinth in River Rd Barking Essex? Photo has been posted on FaceBook with the comment that it used to be outside Wood Green Timber.
In France where I live some of the time they are making a big deal of the extra cleaning done on public service vehicles and trains at the moment. Tfl likewise.
But yesterday morning I got on a filthy London Victoria - Brighton Gatwick Express train which hadn't suffered the indignity of...
