    Linux Ubuntu

It only turns into a flame war when fanbois like you come along and offer statements which hold no weight at all and that you just can't back up. I've backed up my points; now where's yours? I also offered to continue this via PM, but instead you request the thread be locked because you have...

    Caledonian Sleeper?

I didn't like it much. Going down to London I didn't get very much sleep at all and the only reason I did when coming back is because I was that knackered I'd probably have slept through a storm anyway. The ride is pretty bumpy, there's the inevitable shudder when the train moves off from a...

    Departing on full power?

Can you do it on a 37? From what I know, do it on a 37 or similar and you will very quickly chew the track up, not to mention revving the engine unecessarily high and perhaps causing damage.

    Linux Ubuntu

I don't feel like digging out my old YouTube videos which will disprove this theory nor do I feel like installing Linux on one of my old boxes alongside Windows, to also disprove this theory. Nonsense. Utter nonsense. How the hell is a monolithic kernel designed on archaic security principles...

    Southern 313s and 508s

Why are relatively modern trains being replaced by relatively old and crap trains like 313/508s?

    Linux Ubuntu

The point I have been trying to make all along is that someone made a blanket statement that you can run **ANY** Windows program on Linux by installing WinE, which to say the very least, is blatantly wrong. I posted that video, which is my own, showing that WinE can't even perform a simple GUI...

    Saturday Jobs at stations

It might not be as simple as walking in and 'gizza job' but you never know, it doesn't hurt to try.

Right, because WinE can't even do this properly: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bak9Pce_uo4

    So, what's your backup plan?

Aussie; try Piriform Recuva to recover data off the buggered disk you were talking about. (its free)

    Your perfect train fleet

A HST with Valenta Engine. A HST with MTU engine. (both HSTs in Intercity livery) Two 314s; one with the GEC components (loud clank sound) and the other with a BRUSH components. both 314s in SPT orange/black livery. A 156 in SPT orange. A 170 in Carmine/Cream livery (blood and custard)

    So, what's your backup plan?

It's not really as simple as that. If the head crashes, it could end up scattering the data all over the place. Replacing the platter (one of the moving parts) is no use either because thats what the data is on. The moral of the story is, if your hard drive is physically knackered, it's time...

    So, what's your backup plan?

Yes that's a hard drive... and it will be 160GB not 16. External Hard drives are the same as internal ones though, moving parts, could easily end up knackered if bumped or something, but the advantage is they hold lots of data.
