It is not necessarily a deliberate attempt to con people. Often it is just a consequence of they way the fares are set in zones and then quota controlled. Short hops on the West Coast, for example, can have ludicrous advance fares on offer: they are exactly the same as the fare all the way to...
There is no 'travel itinerary'. There is just one seat reservation on the EMT portion, and nothing else. And no instructions about connections. The railways can't enforce made up rules that are not communicated to passengers.
I booked on ticket release date, for early May. You can get First all the way from Leeds by using XC connection (every hour), it comes down to what you interpret by '+connections'. But seeing as that isn't defined anywhere, i'll take whatever interpretation favours my travel plans. Depending on...
Hello
Hope someone might know this. I'm going to be travelling southbound on EMT from Sheffield to London, 19:27, first class.
What catering will be available? Their website says that there will be "at seat dining on most trains" and has a hot foot menu (allbeit a short one), but the...
Hello, just wanted some advice - getting ready for a trip on the caledonian sleeper to Fort William. A couple of questions:
1) What sort of food menu should we expect on board? All I can find out from their website is "light snacks" - what does that mean?
2) I was looking at the departure...
I've read the Virgin website, and I think I understand the theory, but I wonder how it works in practice.
If I have a first open return Liverpool Lime Street-->Runcorn (£5.40), will this be accepted for entry in the Virgin first-class lounge at Liverpool Lime Street?
Hello everyone.
Does anybody know, is the date when bargain berth quotas are released the same as for the usual National Rail tickets (sometime thursday night or friday morning). Or is it just as and when they choose?
Thanks
'via Harrogate' will often get you the connection to Leeds on the advanced purchase ticket from Edinburgh. When the ticket arrives it just says +connections so I assume you don't actually have to travel via Harrogate.

Says the booking horizon for Virgin trains on Saturdays is only 17 October right now.
I couldn't find any relevant engineering listed on the National rail website, but that doesn't mean something isn't planned. I've had this...
I think my example is also to do with quotas. Leeds-->London on NXEC quotas sell relatively quickly but trips involving Leeds-->Peterborough, Peterborough-->London can still be available at the lower price bands.
