A positive update at last after the Elsecar Steam Railway closed and the line fell into disrepair. The new vision sounds Beamish-esque:

Does anyone know when the Lakeside and Haverthwaite railway runs its Fairburn Steam tank engines and if this is advertised anywhere please? All recent photos online seem to be of the industrial steam locomotives and I can't see a loco roster on their website.
If one was to visit this weekend...
Certainly an interesting idea, but I’m not sure how great the saving is going to be when you consider the extra weight and drag of the sails when they can’t be used.

On a recent journey, I did not receive my travel tickets in the post as requested. They were also not attached to the booking confirmation email (I ordered different tickets the day before from the same company and QR codes were also attached to that email). I rang the number included in...
This tour is now confirmed to be Mk1 stock featuring D9009 Alycidon which should be fantastic thundering down the ECML to London Kings Cross and then back to Cleethorpes, then featuring a WCRC 47/57 to assist with a reversal. The tour looks to be going ahead despite strike action that day...
Seems like a race against time, but unless the submersible has surfaced, the odds of rescue seem slim due to the deep depths involved.
Interesting that such an experience is even available though. Having been on a small submarine that went in coastal waters, I’m not sure I’d go anywhere near...

Seems like of a plea for funding. I’ll believe it when I see it…
Any guesses?
Should TP offload their class 68 sets as has been speculated on these fora, where do you think they will end up?
Replacing Scotrail HST’s would seem a reasonable fit in terms of having First Class, 5 carriages and no under floor engines as was originally specified when Scotrail chose HST’s...
Whilst browsing Twitter, I came across the below article that I thought was interesting and deserving of wider attention since it goes into much greater detail than David Meara's Anglo-Scottish Sleepers (2018), which doesn't even mention many of the 1961 services despite being what most would...
Does anyone have any information on this former rail facility in North Sheffield please?
Firstly, why was there an oil terminal here in the first place? Currently, they tend to be by the sea and it's not a particularly strategic location being on the Hallam Line.
What was the facilities main...
As many on here will be aware, it’s notoriously difficult to take a decent photo through a train window, and even more so when the train is moving.
So, what’s your single best photo you’ve taken through a train window?
This one is mine, which was extremely lucky and taken in great conditions...
Hi, just a couple of questions about the validity of this ticket.
- The map shows the ticket valid at ‘Wrexham,’ is it valid to Wrexham General?
- The ticket is valid at Matlock and Sheffield. But is it valid on the MML between those (via Derby)?
Over the last few years we've seen first class complimentary offerings generally scaled back, so I was thinking that a list of operators that remain with a respectable first class offerings may be of use.
I understand that reduced First Class catering offerings are wholly appropriate for...
I'm considering a first visit to the Churnet Valley Railway, and the breakfast train looks decent value and a good way to start the day.
However, there is apparently a dress code for such trains. I find it a bit odd that you have to dress smartly to have a fry up, as it seems a bit...
The Ecclesbourne Valley and Peak Rail have teamed up this year to create a Diesel Gala across both lines with a heritage bus running inbetween both railways. I find this quite novel and interesting so thought I would share it on here to make other forum members aware.
Running on the...
This June I will be flying in to Bologna Airport and catching the shuttle train to Bologna Centrale in the afternoon, where I will then have a sizeable wait until the Night Train down to Taranto, before I catch the IC train along the Ionian Coast line. Thus, I have a few questions about how to...
Burning moorland to keep it moorland is clearly not good for the environment. Leaving it to grow naturally, eventually becoming trees would obviously be a benefit in terms of producing oxygen and capturing carbon, but also in terms of absorbing potential floodwaters preventing flooding of towns...

What do members make of this? Is it a good idea and will it work?
Kids under 15 free seems a good idea and you can't argue with £40 all year, but could the railway actually lose ticket revenue because of...
For those who don't know, the Stocksbridge (/Deepcar) Branch, which is the remaining section of the old Woodhead Line between Sheffield and Penistone, now seems to have lost its last remaining freight trains as has been well documented by forumites in this thread...
