What lines, closed either by Beeching, or later, in the 70's would be viable now, if they had remained open?

just about - same as many high streets. No one with a choice shops there so the quality of outlets goes down as the number of vape shop, barbers and charity shops goes up!

What lines, closed either by Beeching, or later, in the 70's would be viable now, if they had remained open?

I THINK it is the No.70 bus and there about 5 or 6 a day. They run via Thirsk which is the sensible way with the local roads. The railway line ran a more direct route accorss country (IRC). I am bit out of touch with Northallerton these days. Thankfully.

there will just be a massive list of peoples personal favourites. See below. How are we defining viable? We cant project what the world looks like today onto the world of the 1960's. We have to look at the world of the time. We also have to wonder if all of these basket case lines stayed...

The Labour Party under Andy Burnham

why? it is good money for most normal people and comes with plenty of free publicity followed by some cushy non executive director roles! There isn't any actual work involved as long as you keep getting yourself in your local paper opening a fete or looking sadly at potholes once in a while...

Do you think there are enough British Transport Police?

Nope, nope and thrice nope (Nor are there enough policeman generally)

so free then ;) As I said I don't mind that disabled people get help and support to join the workplace and live as "normal" a life as they can. I simply state I understand why the fact that there is a "free" car involved upsets lots of people who cant afford a car despite working hard. It...

The Labour Party under Andy Burnham

yes, that could be an option. Not one that will work though. We are way past that. People, especially those working hard and struggling, are angry and feel they are having the urine extracted by this and other items. I understand that and I worry about what that means for all of us. I am not...

The Labour Party under Andy Burnham

Maybe. However, we have to acknowledge there is a perception issue and because of that the government must be seen to do something. Doing nothing will get us Farage. No issue with that. I would be happy to have a "free" Ford Puma or even a Dacia Sandero! To be really clear: If I get a base...

Living at home with your parents as an adult

Surely the council/care provider would simply levy a charge on the property and collect on a later sale. Which is a sum above the value of most "normal" houses! hence why the noise around inheritance tax is just that for everyday folk!

The Labour Party under Andy Burnham

That is still quite a bit if you are struggling to make ends meet. I know when I was really struggling I would have been really angry about this. It isn't petty jealousy when the bailiffs are after you for the gas bill! There is a sperate argument about whether a person on benefits should be...

Because the perception ( perhaps wrongly but existing within many) is that the Motability user is getting a "better" deal than the rest of us. Say I am on Motability - how much will a BMW X1 cost me in my own money and how much will the government provide? The list price for me seems to be £37k...

I saw this interview: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c8jrw21lx0xo with a disabled person regarding Motability. The gist was "I am disabled, why cant I drive the car I want"? I can hear 90% of the people I know saying: because I am paying for it. I have to work really hard just to stay...

Crewe to Euston - Seating hacks and wondering how busy the service will be!

as an addition: the former first class seats in the 350 vary by train. Some are still nice, some are really uncomfortable in a way the cattle class seats aren't

Crewe to Euston - Seating hacks and wondering how busy the service will be!

what is a "seating hack"? The LNWR Crewe > Euston train starts from Crewe so walk as far along the platform as you can and get on there. Head for the former first class section if you want a bit nicer seat but the 350's are good trains and have decent space throughout. If you want lots of space...
