    Bordesley railway station proposed closure

Yes because for the past 18 months or so, only trains towards Birmingham have stopped pre-match and away from Birmingham post-match. The club have been running shuttle buses from the city centre to the ground instead for anyone who doesn't fancy the walk.

    Rules and procedures questions

I guess your mileage may vary with it depending on where you're relieving a train

    Rules and procedures questions

'Additional' running brake tests are useful for testing adhesion in known and suspected dodgy areas but the mandated RBT as soon as you take over a train or change ends (, etc, etc) isn't necessarily going to be much use for that purpose.

How could more capacity be squeezed out of Birmingham New Street?

I reckon it was about 4 or 5 years ago now, it was apparently all set to happen... ...and then a notice appeared fairly last minute to say it wasn't happening, and I've heard nothing of it since.

Chiltern MK5s Starting 2026 (non speculative updates thread)

Noticed quite a few 165+168 combos popping up on Birminghams lately, was wondering if they're booked diagrams since the timetable change but I'm guessing not?

Camp Hill line - progress updates

All 3 stations are in fare zone 3, so the same as Kings Norton and Bournville.

Camp Hill line - progress updates

The train takes 15 minutes, all day every day. The bus is timetabled to take between 20 and 35 (and can turn out to be longer) depending on the time of day. Think that's worth 60 pence of anyone's money...

This empty stock schedule would depart from Birmingham New Street Platform "1SG"

Yup. XC used to stable a spare Voyager (and a 170?) in them through the day, however the walking routes to the sidings have been out of use for about 3 years now since resignalling took place, so it no longer happens. You do occasionally get trains passing through the sidings still though.

EWR/Chiltern Class 196 Build and Implementation

One of them has been being used as the Camp Hill route learner, which might explain why the branding has been covered up. Edit: There we are, see post above!

Midlands Rail Hub 20m extra seats

You know what HS2 could really do with? Another respec and redesign, just to make it take even longer to materialise and cost even more...

East-West Rail (EWR): Consultation updates [not speculation]

You forget that this is a country full of miserable, spiteful people who will object to absolutely anything.

Midlands Rail Hub 20m extra seats

The most recent update - from December - has a render of the extension on the Up side of Moor Street, so presumably the lot is getting done. https://www.networkrailmediacentre.co.uk/news/major-step-forward-as-midlands-rail-hub-alliance-confirmed

05:43 Great Malvern to Birmingham New Street

Correct. The original suggestion was that the 0604 gets in the way of the following train beyond Kings Norton because it's 3 minutes later than it would be but it isn't, as it's running in it's normal path by that point.

05:43 Great Malvern to Birmingham New Street

It leaves Redditch 3 minutes later than usual but is back in the standard timings from Longbridge as trains usually have 4 or 5 minutes dwell there, so the time from Redditch wouldn't make any difference to the train following it from Kings Norton.

Cycles at Stations: Red Rear Light Safety Risk?

It's a non-issue, really. I'd even say that publicising the fact that a red light might lead to a driver sticking it in emergency could create a bigger issue by encouraging idiots to start waving red lights around for ****s and giggles

Midlands Rail Hub 20m extra seats

All it needs really is to be made fully permissive, rather than the current rigmarole that has to take place.

Cycles at Stations: Red Rear Light Safety Risk?

In theory yes and it's best to turn it off but in practice, it's quite obvious when it's the light on someone's bike

Trivia: Stations which have gone downhill and got worse in recent years.

You're doing something wrong then because you have to go up another escalator from the main concourse to end up in the shopping centre...

    Storm Goretti disruption - 8/9 January 2026

The Cross City, the Walsall line and the Shrewsbury line all had trees on them for a start. Points were set mainline at Stoke Works so, even once the Camp Hill had been de-treed, nothing could run to Worcester. There were issues with staff getting in early (and issues with late staff who had...
