Storm Amy Travel Disruption (03/10 onwards)

Tree down knackering the southern half of the Cross City, as is traditional any time the wind picks up...

We should be building through platforms, rather than creating dead end platforms in the middle of a city in the middle of the country

What's the alternative? Wait another lifetime for an amount of money that will probably never be forthcoming in order to build a load of new tunnels?

TRIVIA: Junctions where the branch is straight-on, and the main is around the corner

Peculiar situation at Abbotswood Junction where both the main route and the diverging route towards Worcester both get a junction indicator (position 1 towards Worcester, position 4 for the main). Not sure why that's the case, I believe prior to the recentish resignalling there was only the...

    Class 730 LNR & WMR Delivery/test Updates

It might be different at stations where whole carriages are locked out but at Bournville, for instance, it doesn't announce that 'only the front doors on this carriage will open' until the train has stopped and the doors are unlocked, which isn't ideal...

    Multiple working shenanigans

There used to be a regular 170+153 on the Snow Hill lines (which is what's pictured) and that combo was regularly used on the Chase line pre-electrification. Not sure 172s ever worked in service with either 170s or any of the sprinters but they would've been compatible. When the (ex-)Chiltern...

Midlands Rail Hub 20m extra seats

The 'funding'* is only for the western chord (and associated bits at Snow Hill, Kings Norton, etc). *As far as I can tell, it's only the money to keep progressing the project, rather than funding to do the actual work, and is just a reannouncement of the announcement a few weeks ago, itself a...

    Class 730 LNR & WMR Delivery/test Updates

Is there an ongoing issue with the toilets or is it simply poor design (ie inadequate water capacity) that they can't last anywhere near a day in service? Very rare to find a functioning toilet on them once you get beyond about 8pm.

Blanket Speed Restrictions - Single Point of Failure - significant risks

I find it's very hit and miss and even between different workstations of the same signalling centre.

Blanket Speed Restrictions - Single Point of Failure - significant risks

Always wondered why more signallers don't use the berth-triggered broadcasts when it comes to BSRs but maybe that's why

    Class 730 LNR & WMR Delivery/test Updates

Up only at Longbridge. It's one that stands out as an error - at least most of the others [that have doors locked out] are a reasonably tight fit.

    Class 730 LNR & WMR Delivery/test Updates

I wouldn't hold your breath. The rear doors are still locked out at Longbridge on the Up even though they're accommodated by about a coach length.

Incident at Talerddig, Wales - 21/10/2024

There was also the case of the runaway sleeper a few years ago, where the driver opted not to hit the big red button and this was noted as a smart move as it allowed trains to keep moving and keep a clear path ahead. That may have gone through the driver's mind, knowing they were about to run...

Weird Places for Services to Terminate

Some WMR services starting from Bordesley after the Birmingham City game tomorrow (the corresponding services before the match all continue on to Moor Street though)

Chiltern abandoning West Midlands on Sunday

Still find it all very peculiar when, in the past, they've done pretty well catering for this kind of thing. I guess in the past it's the sort of thing where crew would probably have been 'incentivised' to work in order to provide an enhanced service (this goes for Avanti and LNR as well, as it...

Chiltern abandoning West Midlands on Sunday

Is running 3 an hour from Warwick Parkway really much less resource intensive than running 2 from Moor Street (especially when 8 of those trains are coming into service from Moor Street or Stourbridge...) Seems a bit peculiar they're doing this when they've usually been pretty good at catering...
