I haven't been closely following this thread, but if trying to divert around the incident area at Lewes, and keep the lead engine leading, you could run like so:

Haywards Heath
Keynes Junction continue towards Brighton
Preston Park
Spur to Hove
Reverse at Hove
Brighton platform 3
Reverse at Brighton
East Coastway to Lewes
And continue towards Eastbourne or wherever the tour heads
Presumably you mean Keymer Junction. Unfortunately platform 3 at Brighton is only long enough for four cars to and from the Hove direction....but why bother going to Hove for an additional reversal when you can just run straight down the main line into any of platforms 3-8 and make a single reversal onto the Lewes line? With a loco at both ends it's not a problem.

That's how we did it via Brighton
47 712 Lead the way down, 47593 coming back. we were stopped at East Croydon for about 45 minutes whilst the checked a "problem" which turned out that 593 was simply overheating but in the time we were stopped it cooled down enough to continue and was OK after that. They were considering moving 47712 to the front when they could but conditions cooled down enough I guess.

As we passed Harpenden on the way down the MML we saw a EMR class 810 stopped at the station with doors open (including the drivers) and people milling around, took a moment to realise that it was not supposed to stop there and guessed it was having a reboot as about 20 minutes later it passed us again. Looks like it was 810012 on the 1C20 07:34 from Sheffiled looking back as RTT

I'm travelling on the tour with 89001 tomorrow (Tuesday, 18 August 2026). The paths on Real Time Trains suggest that the 89 will be pushing in one direction as there are no paths to leave Glasgow Central and I'm not sure a run around of locomotives is possible there. Can anybody confirm? I believe a mark 3 DVT has been included in the rake of carriages in the most recent test run (and possibly all test runs this year)

I can confirm that the formation is 89001 (north end) - 9 Mk.3 passenger vehicles - DVT 82139. So 89001 will lead northwards, 83139 southwards.

Though the Tebay test runs included the DVT, that was only for convenience with shunting at Crewe. The 89 ran round the train at Tebay on both runs to ensure that both driving cabs got a good workout.

Thanks Paul. Looking forward to it, what a fantastic achievement!

The recent test trip to Stafford worked DVT leading on the way out on a video I saw, which was my first confirmation that DVT running was available.

Strangely there is a path from Crewe H.S. to Carnforth Steamtown on Wednesday, and apparently it is pathed to use the turntable (the path is 5Z41)

82139 also led Crewe HS - Stafford (with just 87002 in between, as backup) as 5Z89 on 24/11/2025; and also on the Tebay test trains between Crewe HS and Crewe Down Refuge Siding as 5Z31 on 18/03/2026 and 20/03/2026. Also, not only did the DVT lead the test train Crewe - Stafford last Friday, it also led the test train Crewe - Gresty Green "on the way home". Part of the work in getting 89001 ready for traffic was ensuring that the TDM system works correctly. The run to Stafford and back last Friday was as much a shakedown for the carriages as for the 89+DVT.

Railway Herald suggests this is a steam locomotive, but that goes against the current steam ban.

Given the change in the weather, I suspect that the steam ban may be about to be overturned....if indeed it has not been already.

On the Railtour. Failed at Warrington due to a battery charger. 90 on the way. Will be terminating at Carlisle and spinning back.

Opened the doors at Warrington - probably here some time.

== Doublepost prevention - post automatically merged: ==

Live scenes. Northbound pendolinos having to use P4 @ Warrington Bank Quay as we are blocking 3

90 just arrived so on the way to Carlisle soon

Tbh I would have been happy heading to Glasgow behind the 90. Guessing they were hampered by paths, but moving departure back an hour and leaving less than an hour turn around in Glasgow was asking for trouble.

Bigger issue was lack of run around at Glasgow Central. 90 can't talk to the DVT with the 89 in the way so needs somewhere it can run around

Shouldn't need to be next to the coaches to 'talk' to the DVT, can send TDM signals through the 89's jumpers.

At least, the normal set up of TDM permits a dead loco to send signals through.

I'm just going on what the driver and train manager communicated

Managed to see the Badger at lunchtime. Railcam reporting that the 90 was having break trouble on the return leg.
