I think it’s in the end driving vehiclesI’ve heard there’s an issue with the accessible toilet, is that in Coach C?
Isn't it a border around the light above the driver's window on the IETs?Can you tell from the front which is the first class end, you could tell on the class 222s by the yellow paint on the bar on the coupling.
thanksYep.
The destination screen will have a white spot on the left, if its the first class endCan you tell from the front which is the first class end, you could tell on the class 222s by the yellow paint on the bar on the coupling.
There’s a white dot on the front facing destination display that indicates the first class end. From pictures I've seen, no, can not tell from the front end.
Only by the side where windows are covered etc.

Fair enough, I thought that was its spotlightThere’s a white dot on the front facing destination display that indicates the first class end.
I wondered that too. It is customary for 1st to be at the London endWas 810010 the wrong way around today? 1st was at the back, I thought the usual arrangement is for 1st to be at the front, closest to the exit at the terminus.
Too much trouble to maintain consistently due to turning via trent triangle when empty to/from Notts and via Brighton going to Sheff.
Coach C definitely isn't an accessible loo, I used it earlier.I’ve heard there’s an issue with the accessible toilet, is that in Coach C?
Not on the Midland it isn’t. Because of the geography of the route trains can easily become turned e.g. a train going onto Etches Park after arriving direct from London could go empty stock to Nottingham the following morning and so become turned.I wondered that too. Unsure if planned route, but ecs ran via Toton, that would turn the set.Was 810010 the wrong way around today? 1st was at the back, I thought the usual arrangement is for 1st to be at the front, closest to the exit at the terminus.
Yay! Seats matching up with pillars! Just like their grown-up siblings!Yep.
Yes, and I thought EMRs 1st class yellow stripe re-introduction when they started the franchise was a welcome development...It's amazing what lengths TOCs will go to just to avoid a yellow stripe!
It isn’t something EMR attempt to do anymore. Think it was ditched during EMT.Was 810010 the wrong way around today? 1st was at the back, I thought the usual arrangement is for 1st to be at the front, closest to the exit at the terminus.
At Derby (pity about the low winter sunshine)anyone got any pics from today to upload here by any chance?

looks shiny! and some interesting moves on your list thereAt Derby (pity about the low winter sunshine)
Interesting hour or so with
81009 on the 14.19 to Cricklewood
810010 14.32 (from Derby)Sheffield to St Pancras
37800 with 455714 & 455730 in tow -Wimbledown to Litchurch Lane
50008 Rugby to Derby RTC with DR80201 Stone Blower
and Romic HST 43122 & 43094 Mid Norfolk Railway to Chaddesden Sidings
Full of veg then.On board the 1132 now. Still got that new train smell.
Anyway, I’m shocked, we’ve got this far and nobody has mentioned the seats yet!
They have been economically designed...or was it ergonomically?I’d say the opposite if it’s full of veg!

I'm 6 foot plus and whilst it isn't "ample" it isn't bad either. The FISA LEAN is pretty well known. From the pictures I've seen the legroom looks poor, though, I'd be interested to know what those who have actually been on one think.
One very interesting observation I've made is that there appears to be no floor level bodyside conduit - I assume heating is all underfloor, but even on units that have underfloor heating thus far e.g. the 730 the conduit is still there.
Yes the unit does have underfloor heating. The FISA LEAN is pretty well known. From the pictures I've seen the legroom looks poor, though, I'd be interested to know what those who have actually been on one think.

The 14:00 southbound had a few veg onboard (guilty!]. One person I got talking to who was considerably taller than me commented on the lack of legroom.Full of veg then.
The saloon doesn't feel much if any smaller, it's the vestibules where they've saved most of the space I think. I had time at my leisure to try most of the different types of seat in both first, standard and even the cabs and galley (That's a shame, as while I know they have other faults legroom on other 80x I would say is ample, that was one of the most welcome developments with these. I suppose they've just managed to deal with the loss of about 2m of body per vehicle compared to other Hitachi units by squashing the seats closer together. Though the thick back of the LEAN seat (a very poor design in my view) doesn't help!
