I think the thing about it being everywhere was that it was one of the first few named 47/4s (and the only LMR namer at that time, the others were WR), and therefore stood out whenever you saw it from a fleet of 150-odd other BR blue 47/4s (especially as it also regularly got tarted up for Royal Train duties).

Quite possibly. I lived in the midlands in the early 80s and it did seem to be omnipresent at times. (And it’s also the first specific loco I can remember seeing, pulling into a crowded Coventry platform 3 off the Leamington line)

Personally, I think it looked awful in that drab grey, it changes the entire character of the locomotive for the worse. BR Blue would have been better but at least Green is a classic and matches the coaching stock on the railway

The 25 will be coming back in blue. Talking of which, its traction motors have been sent for refurbishment, another step towards its return to service after being flooded.

Hopefully the 37 will turn blue too when it is next painted. Or how about large logo?

Any of the large logo livery versions are cracking on a 37

Well everyone who has said they are attending on here so far has said Friday. So I reckon Friday and Saturday due to the attractiveness of the line up on those days over Thursday and the better availability of public transport over Sunday.

Friday will probably be the busiest, it has the most popular line-up with 20007 and 20205, I don't think the HSTs or the 70 will be as popular as the 20s, especially 20007. The HSTs are always quite controversial at diesel galas in my experience, people moan that they aren't noisy or claggy enough.

I think the 70 will prove a strong attraction, they are very hard to get for haulage.

I agree. Really glad it’s being repainted! I too hope the 37 gets a change but I think someone said it’s in the only authentic livery for its condition.

For me, I think seeing them back-to-back working a train would be more of a disappointment.

To be honest, I don’t think we’ll ever top the days when 41001 was active and being hired out to lines with its -coach MK3 set.

You could have an authentic prototype high-speed set represented at one end and stick literally whatever you wanted on the other end as long as it was air-braked.. hence that famous video of USATC S160 5820 hauling the set on the worth valley railway!

The power cars are working this mornings 0746 0D25 Kings Norton to Loughborough Brush then 1216 0D26 to Chaddesden, any idea if they're collecting something from Loughborough for the Gala or if it's just RailAdventure business?

With the upcoming heatwave, has Keighley ever imposed a steam ban? Unlike other heritage railways, in the (admittedly brief) time I've used the KWVR I haven't heard of a steam ban. Why do they seem much less frequent than other railways?

They seem to just double head with a diesel and the steam in light steam. They also reduce the lengths of trains and drive 'more considerately' during riskier periods.

It is also a pretty damp area, increasingly urbanised and not a National Park so less bad publicity to be had. Also the short distances between stations makes lineside access easier to fight fires as needed.

Talking of public transport, I hope anyone intending to travel via Hebden Bridge and the B3 bus has already discovered it isn't currently running to Hebden Bridge due to a seven week closure of the A6033?

Not a good day at the gala today I think. According to Paul Spracklen (owner of 50021, so trustworthy source) 70017 (see correction) has derailed with 50021 behind it. All the Damems shuttles have been cancelled

They were a number of staff inspecting the track on the Keighley headshunt when I went by on the delayed 14.15 ex Keighley. The 70 was trapped in by the 50 ie the 70 at the ingrow end of the headshunt.
