Definitely not to my taste. To me its another preserved loco in a livery aimed at the 60+ y/o's. As with many other railways, I can't imagine this sort of thing does much to inspire younger volunteers (of which there is a famous shortage!).

There were certainly a good number of younger volunteers involved in its restoration, so I’m not sure this is true. That said, I’m not sure how exactly that livery was chosen. I would add that I’m nowhere near 60 and I like the livery:

I could well be talking cobblers, I can only speak for myself/circle of friends and, of course, anecdotal evidence should never be relied upon. I certainly know when it comes to liveries, my group (30-50 year olds) are broadly uninterested in BR Green, and would prefer railfrieght grey onwards.

I'm not saying it wouldn't appeal to any younger people, simply that it is my suspicion a newer livery would have broader appeal.

I don’t know about this. I’m 35; I can appreciate that Green but was hoping for BR Blue. I think a locomotives original livery is always a credible option and as I’ve said before upthread: it matches the KWVR coaching stock.

There are already prominent Railfreight red stripe 20’s about. I wouldn’t have minded DRS original Blue, but options beyond those two are getting pretty niche.

Just by way of update: 20031 is now advertised as running at this Saturdays diesel & ale day on the KWVR

I think it's each to their own. I'm early 30s and love the green, think it will look lovely on some Maroon Mk1s. Possibly would have slightly preferred BR Blue but that is well represented elsewhere.

The 25 will come back in blue, and the 101 is blue.

Hopefully the 37 will turn blue too.

Indeed. Although I much prefer rail blue (with TOPS numbers), on the KWVR green is more harmonious with the coaching stock.
I always regard the KWVR as a steam railway which tolerates diesels so a rake of its coaches is unlikely to carry blue and grey livery (certainly in the foreseeable future).
With that in mind, rail blue locos could look incongruous. Unless they carry pre-TOPS numbers. Which wouldn’t be accurate for the class 37 with its mis-matching nose-ends! And possibly for the class 25, though I’ve no idea when it lost its nose-end doors. Though, for the same reasons, green wouldn’t be “right” either.
I guess that liveries are a minefield and many locos are likely to be re-painted cyclically to change a railway’s offer. Even if a lot of those re-paints will offend my (nerdish) preference for accuracy!!

It's just different people liking different stuff. In a similar vein, regardless of livery, I almost always find myself thinking "they're just too clean" when I go to a diesel weekend

I dunno, as an exception to the rule, 47765 (Which I assume is shortly scheduled a repaint) was doing a pretty authentic impression of tatty ex-Scotrail 47706 after transfer to the West of England, at the East Lancs gala last weekend.

Just an update 20031 is no longer being advertised as working this weekend. It’s the Class 14 and Vulcan in terms of diesels.

Today we visited KWVR for The Railway Children play at Oxenhope. For £20 each it was an absolute bargain, well worth every penny. Great adaptation of the original KWVR based film, brilliant how the stage and scenery was set up and managed.

The day is top and tailed with a rare non stop run along the line to and from the venue using a mix of coaching stock pulled by GCR 8F 48305.

It's on until 7th September.

It sounds good. I’m pleased it went well. I’m going on the evening of Wednesday 6th August. A great bargain if you got one of the lower priced tickets. Mine is £42 but I still don’t think it’s a bad price.

I’ve seen that the 37 has been shunted behind the 144. Before the diesel gala, I heard that it needed a large amount of work doing so maybe we’ll see 20031 on this years’ Elf Explorer services.

One disappointment from the 8F being used on a private train only, is that this year there are very few weekends with 3 locomotives in public use, which was pretty common in previous summers and is less attractive for regular visitors hoping for some variety.

There's been such an incident on the Dean Forest Railway if that's what you've seen.
