I don't want to jinx things (!) But exams are now much better balanced and if a set does have to wait a day or 2 it's now held at Crewe ETD rather than Holyhead which saves ages. Also using the wheel lathe there rather than Canton saves an age too, as it doesn't have to travel from the exam and also the Crewe lathe will take the rake as it comes but the Canton one requires it splitting and putting back together.
That's reassuring, I'll ask closer to the date about set availablity as I really don't fancy a long while on a 197 to Crewe. Good to know that Holyhead isn't used and whatnot, keeping it closer to base (by a long shot) is always ideal.

Taking a trip out tomorrow to sample this, just a couple of advance queries if anyone can confirm please and thanks in advance!

- Likely allocations for 1W55 (08:49 ex Cardiff) and 1V37 (08:30 ex Manchester)
- Is breakfast service available on 1W55?

Can't disagree with you there!

But it raises an interesting debate about reliability of different forms of transport
Are you seriously trying to compare the maintenance of trains compared to aircraft?
They're two completely different forms of transport, the latter having much much more stringent and stricter maintenance procedures.

1V37 is planned for 67025+HD06
1W55 is planned for 67015+HD01

1W55 is planned to have a full catering/first class service available from Newport to Manchester.

06 should also work 14:49 Cardiff to Manchester and return vice 197 tomorrow.
That plans been put on the back burner to cover the PM bit of diagram 5 until the diagram comes in properly due to it not being a Mk4 diagram so crews often cover who don't sign it. The only time it's likely to run until then is if sets need moving between Crewe and Canton like happened on Tuesday.

1w11 was delayed by a freight slipping to stand in the Cwmbran area needing rescuing

67020/HD04 unable to get brake release on Canton, hoped to get spare set 67008/HD05 to work 18:55 Cardiff to Manchester to balance things for tomorrow, 04 was planned to be the Crewe spare tomorrow.

67013 has also been released from exam at Crewe so hopefully those 2 should head back to TfW soon giving good loco coverage and allow 67007 to go back to DB.

Oh! That's brilliant! So it's back in the pool I'm assuming? If it is then get that thing on a set
Not just yet but shouldn't be too far away. With it being out for so long it's likely to have a test run before officially going back out.

Supposing diagrams will remain normal tomorrow due to VOG diversions, unit to Cardiff and then a set off to Piccadilly and vice versa.

HD02 is headed to Holyhead this weekend and HD03 is swapping in to Crewe

Look to be the same other than the Swanseas start/finish at Cardiff, HD01 and 04 should be the Cardiff starts and HD03 and 05 on the Crewe starts, 05 is on it's last day before stopping for heavy exam from Sunday.

The swap was planned so that the loco on HD03 can have an exam overnight at Canton on Sunday.

So HD05 will be out of action, HD07 too if I'm not mistaken? That leaves 5 sets, so one spare? How long do these heavy exams normally take on average out of my curiosity

Yes both of those will be on heavy exams. There's nothing else coming up for exam until next Sunday so 4 of HD01/02/03/04/06 will be in service each day with a spare set kept on Canton each day (Crewe will be full with 2 in service and 2 exam sets).

The B exam takes around 2 weeks so HD07 will likely be released around a week on Monday, possibly a little quicker or slower depending on workload from repairs on other sets.

Its Planned to be back on hire to TfW today to act as North standby for now. Will head across to ATC today or tomorrow.

67008+HD05 are heading in the opposite direction going from ATC to Crewe ETD for storage tomorrow whilst HD07s exam is completed. Likely to be there a week or so. This will free up space or Crewe would be at capacity every night and no spare could be kept.

Once this round of B exams are complete (HD07 to complete then HD05/06/02 to have theirs) then the intention is to move onto reactivating HD08 with that work expected to take approximately 12 months so is likely to be late 2025/early 2026 when that appears. Just in time to act as cover for the other 7 sets going through heavy overhauls during 2026 (if everything stays to schedule!) It is thought to be repairable at this point.

When will we start to see the red sets going black?
