Would anyone be so kind as to compose a list of the status of the 175 fleet please? I think it’d be very interesting.

From what I can see

Active 175001/003/006/009/011/102/103/104/110/116
Stored 175002^/005^/111*
Fire Damaged 175007/008/101
Which leaves 175004/010/105/106/107/108/109/112/113/114/115 assumedly awaiting the part needed for re-entering service

^ off lease * parts donor

Apologies if I mixed up any numbers.

Seem to be going back into service one every few days - 001 and 110 the most recent I think

Went to Shrewsbury yesterday and saw a few 175s and they were working fine. No fires to report thankfully.

Only 11 more to come back to service then, if we take out the fire damaged ones and those donating parts etc. That's not too bad then, some sort of normality is coming slowly :)

175108 was out for quite a while back in March as I had it from Cardiff to Church Stretton

I was very pleased to see 175110 out today, possibly the 1530 from Manchester Piccadilly. Dismayed moments later to hear 150217 make its incredibly loud noise heading north on the 1753 from Hereford. The 175 sounded pretty healthy, which was welcome.

There was also a 5 car on 1W94 today formed of 175011 and 175103. 103 was on the rear from Cardiff and locked out of use due to the platform lengths, however both units were in passenger use from Chester toward North Wales.

In an attempt to keep this thread on course some of the debate about the way things have been done is now in this thread:

109 and 004 fired up on Chester depot (004 not been seen recently in service, 109 very recently back in service)

001 and 103 in the sidings by platform 7 (both in use at the mo) along with 108 which hasn’t been used for around a month. None of those fired up, but assumedly 108 used it’s own power to get there

Looks like possibly up to 12/13 in use now?

Fired up doesn't mean in service.
Are 004 and 109 actually in passenger service?
108 is going to longsight.

According to RTT the 0730, 1230, 1330, 1730 departures from Manchester to South Wales were 175s, plus a 158 on the 1530 and a couple of MK4 sets out today too. So a slow improvement.

We were on the 1110 departure from Crewe (1030 from Manchester) which was 153327 and 153913 and very busy! Chose to ride in the latter, first time for many years and could be the last.

I passed the depot at 9am this morning and could only comment that they looked ready for use, which 004 subsequently was. Didn’t really merit your shirty comment.

If RTT is to be believed 004 is being attached 116 between Shrewsbury and Crewe as part of the 10:32 from Swansea to Manchester.

Generally seem to see more 175s about now, hope that they can keep going now until the 197s take over.

Yes I noticed that too. About 5 x 175s on the Swansea-Manchester route today.

A Sunday generally sees a lot of 150s/158s anyway even before the issues with the 175s.

Todays departures from Manchester to South Wales

0930 Swansea 175004
1030 Milford Haven 150255
1129 Swansea 153353/153922
1231 Milford Haven 150264
1330 Swansea 158824/150256 (the 158 only going as far as Cardiff)
1430 Milford Haven/Pembroke Dock 150278/150253 - train divides at Whitland
1530 Swansea 175116
1630 Swansea 153323/153968
1730 Swansea 150252
1830 Carmarthen 175009
1935 Swansea 175004 (not listed but assume it this unit as it forms the arrival from Swansea at 1915)
2030 Cardiff Central 150213
2135 Crewe 153353/153922
2235 Crewe 175007

So looks like 004/007/009 and 116 on the Marches and 104 110 and 003 on Holyheads.

104 went off to Holyhead from Crewe at 14:30 today. It was attached to 116 at Shrewsbury and detached at Crewe. I do not know whether it will be on the 1935 as a result.

Was interesting to see that 104 was not actually used for passengers between Shrewsbury and Crewe despite many standees because apparently that would have caused confusion with the train splitting again. No idea why it was hard to tell passengers at Shrewsbury wanting North Wales to get on the front 2 carriages. Anyone already on 116 from the south would have needed to change at Crewe anyway.

Still, so nice to have a 175/1 again after so many 150s.

Real mixed bag on the Manchester to Cardiff services today, including three 175s, two 158s, two pairs of 153s diagrams and the rest 150s including 150269 back on home turf! Bet that'll cause confusion at Piccadilly!

It will especially as they often use the 'please travel in the front train only' option with a Northern Unit often sharing the platform with the TFW train.

Good to see some 175s back. I noticed one this morning on the Manchester service passing Neath just before 7am.
