175101 is now back at Chester D.M.U.D.
Viewed at 1500 just after the 37s departed.

6 or 7 175s, both /0 and/1, parked up at Holyhead last Saturday morning, together with a Mk4 set and four Avanti 221s.

They seem to be bringing them back slowly from there and doing the work needed to put them back in use.

010 is the only 175/0 not seen in use recently which isn't stored/off lease or damaged, so I assume that is there. 008 also not in use, but that was fire damaged (as was 007, but that is now fixed and out every day)

Some of 105/106/107/108/112/113/114/115 are likely to be there - all assumedly waiting for a tow to Chester for the magic sponge. Other 175/1s all in use with exception of 111 at Longsight as a donor and 101 which arrived yesterday at Chester having been previously fire damaged.

Passing Chester D.M.U.D. at 1500 yesterday afternoon I noted two fire damaged 175s coupled together.

175101 fresh from Crewe C.S. and a 2-car (pictured) which may have been 008?

Has to be 008 as 007 was fixed and is back in service. 008 and 101 are to the best of my knowledge the only units out of action due to "thermal incidents"

There are seven still stored at Holyhead. From the station, the far (wash) road contains 175005, 175010, 175115 & 175105 while the middle (A) road has 175114, 175106 & 175113.

Sorry to be a pain but which 175s are defiantly not coming back in service please?
For all we know they all might come back. The least likely is 111 as that is stored at Longsight and has given a couple of engines away (I believe). 002 and 005 are off lease and stored, although there is no indication that there is anything wrong with them.

Given that I assume the TOC has to give them back in working order it’s not inconceivable that 111 gets a repair, but truth it nobody really knows at this stage.

108 in use today on 1040 Holyhead - Llanelli. Not been seen for a month or so.

Updated - 14 or so units in and out of service at the moment - 001/003/004/006/007/009/011/102/103/104/108/109/110/116
008/101 fire damaged, but so was 007 and that came back into service recently. At Chester DMU as per @samrammstein post above
002^/005* off lease & stored
111 stored and being used as a parts donor at Longsight
That leaves 010*/105*/106*/107$/112/113*/114*/115* not being used day to day at the moment, assumedly being repaired.

* currently at Holyhead as per @33017 post above
$ moved to Chester from Crewe as per @sd0733 post above
^ still at Landore (?) for off lease assessment

Anyone know where 112 is?! haha

(edit - posted this morning 28/4, but its' added to last night's post)

Seems to be quite a few 175s in service now compared to how it was. Which is good as they need all the sprinters/175s they can get to cover for the 170s now they are down to just 3 of them.

None are definitively not returning, but 111 is the most likely.

14 diagrams for 175s from May, 3 x 2 cars and 11 x 3 cars.

Im guessing the 175 diagrams are mostly West Wales-Manchester, West Wales-Cardiff plus some still covering for the absent MK4 diagrams Cardiff-Manchester. Are we expecting to see any on Maesteg or will this be covered by the 3 170s (assume only 2 will be actually booked for service so as to cover maintenance requirements) and some 150s.

It would be better if they could prioritise 175s for the longer distance routes and put any 150/153 substitutes on Maesteg to Cheltenham or Ebbw Vale.

Although the May diagrams do involve a lot more 197s in service than is likely to be the case on day 1.
Sounds like a lot is booked for 197s on paper but like with the MK4's since December they may be booked but a 175 or Sprinter will turn up.

Do you know how the 3 car acceptance is going?
197s coming into service especially the 3 cars seems very slow. Fortunately the 175s coming back into service seems to have got better in time for the timetable so at least they can sub any 197 diagrams for a 175 hopefully.

Mostly yes. The Manchester to Cardiff diagrams should be fully mk4 covered within a couple of weeks of the TT change.

Some on Maesteg Cheltenham and the rest on Manchester services and a couple of Holyheads.

There has been a slight hitch with the 3 cars I can't go in to. Nothing show stopping however, hopefully they'll be out soon.

The original plans for May showed 175s on some Maesteg and Cheltenham services - but that was before both the mass withdrawal of the 175 fleet and the plan to hold on to 170s slightly longer.

I think that is indeed the most likely scenario

As I said above, there is a slight hold up with the 3 cars that will hopefully be resolved soon. We're also at the point that there isn't much extra work the 197s can do until more staff are trained, hence the tailing off of their introduction rate. There is a massive push at Crewe, Shrewsbury, Cardiff Mainline and Carmarthen depots to make this happen though.

could they not accept a few more and run the 197 3 car diagrams as doubled 2 cars until they have the 3 car units

That's what is happening. Cheltenham to Maesteg is now mainly 150s or 2x153s (plus one of the remaining three 170s).

Agreed. I was referring more from the timetable change in May where the 175s are meant to be booked for Maesteg-Cheltenham and Manchester to South Wales, plus a few Holyheads i think. It would be better if the Marches services took priority for the 175s as Sprinters are better suited to Maesteg than the longer distance Manchester services. But I expect it will be a case of where trains finish at night will be where they are placed and there might well be a 175 at Canton put onto a Maesteg and a 150 might well find itself on a Manchester-Milford if it ends up North the night before.

That's not to say they won't swap units part way through

Thanks for the full update @The Prisoner - quite interested in these 2 though, any ideas when they were officially taken off lease (roughly speaking of course)?
No idea of the exact date but I think it was posted somewhere on this forum when it happened. I assume they cant change their mind and bring the two that are off lease back in place of units there are out of service for repairs/parts donor etc?

002 is last known at Landore for inspection by a few parties to be returned to the leasing company. I imagine 005 will have to do the same soon enough.
