That's the Arcola Energy fuel cell demonstrator 314209. I haven't seen anything public of it operational yet and it will be operating demonstration runs. This is the far more significant demonstrator, in my opinion.

Potentially! But then again the system seems very obscure:
230001: Originally diesel, now battery
230002: Battery (went to USA, so doesn't really matter any more)
230003 - 230005: Diesels (West Midlands)
230006 - 230010: Diesel/battery hybrids (TfW)
Perhaps Network Rail just can't keep up with the pace of change of Vivarail's product!!

Only if you believe all the hype about hydrogen.....
Will be very interesting to see whether Porterbrook and Arcola 'demonstrators' both turn a wheel during COP, let alone carry passengers.
Ten quid says it won't make it out of the depot under its own steam.
In other news, the 314 hydrogen conversion can now run under its own steam, however no news as yet as to whether it's in a passenger carrying condition or not. There was talk of having it do a return run out to Paisley Canal during the conference, however it will need more than a lock of paint before it's ready to roll, and time is getting tight for next week.

The plans seem to be the 230 will charge up the batteries by OHL in 10 minutes and do runs to Barrhead or Kilmarnock.
The Hydrogen 314 will be doing shuttles from Glasgow Central to the conference.
The way thing are they will have lots of time if RMT decides to strike for a couple of weeks.

230001 will return to Polmadie for charging in between demo runs between Glasgow Central and Barrhead. It doesn't charge through the OLE. It is charged through a shore supply. Contrary to some media reports, it isn't yet equipped for 'fast charging' but has been designed with provision for fitment of it post-COP26, when Vivarail hope to run it on the Greenford branch to demonstrate the advantages of fast charging.

230001 was test running on the Cotswold Line last week, surprised it wasn't picked up on here. A lot of paperwork has been necessary to get it mainline certified according to Network Rail sources. Let us hope that the Arcola and Porterbrook teams haven't underestimated the task in hand, there is a hell of a lot more involved than just making it work!

As I said, ten quid says it won't make it out of the depot under its own stream. Vivarail are hardly anyone's flavour of the month right now, and as much as I very much want this to work, I just don't have the faith in them to deliver.
In reference to the 314, it's not currently got flooring or internal lighting installed, and it's in a rough shape externally, so I'd be impressed if it was indeed passenger worthy by next week.

With a) No unreliable diesel gensets and b) No dodgy third rail gapping to contend with, batteries have got to be their best shot to deliver something that works! The world awaits....
The Vivarail website has been given a makeover and now has a countdown to COP26. They must be confident that 230001 will work because they say:
Vivarail will be running a daily service out of Glasgow for delegates and VIPs to introduce this new technology. This will be extremely high-profile and has never been done before.
It's invitation only I'm afraid. It's about to set out on a proving run from Polmadie to Barrhead this afternoon. Due to go over the Forth Bridge on Saturday for a Network Rail promotional run. Hydroflex was supposed to do that as well, but sadly the massive team of engineers and academics at Porterbrook and Birmingham University haven't been able to get it working
