And as a football fan, I hope he does come good. He still won't be the best South American you ever had though. :)

Everyone at OT is just dying for him to come on and get going....I have never seen such love for a striker who hasn't "done it for us"

Forlan had a great commoderie with the fans but I am assuming you mean Tevez?

Not at all, it may surprise you actually. Juan Sebastian Veron, for me the most technically gifted player to play in the Premier League, he was fantastic. The problem was everything else, not his ability.

A Villa fan? We love just playing at Villa Park....I hope that continues.

Obviously Kleberson.

Ha,ha....we have found a comdedian!

Technically gifted maybe and when we bought him I couldn't believe our luck but Ruud was the best buy that year....Veron didn't work out,he was a waste of money...the pace of the premier league wasn't suited to him,we got a few good games outta him in Europe and the only one that springs to mind in the league was the 5-3 comeback at Spurs.....there certainly wasn't many....hopefully Di Maria blows them all out of the water.

Do you live in Manchester.........or Surrey ?

I wondered how long that would take,I live in Northern Ireland.

I have been a supporter since 1985 and have been generally going to home games about 5-6 times a season from I started working at sixteen.

I have never been to an away league game but have been to away Champions League games including the final in Rome.

Why Man Utd and not Linfield, or Ballymena, or Coleraine, or Glenavon, or Newry or Portadown etc etc ?

I supported Linfield when I was young,I had a season ticket for years but my dream was always to go to see Utd at Old Trafford.George Best...don't forget!

My granda supported both(his brother moved to Salford who's house I always called at)
I continued both for years when I was younger but it came to the point of one love over the other when the likes of Easyjet introduced cheap flights.

My dream was fulfilled, cheap and easy enough ways to get to Manchester but I have paid crazy amounts for match tickets outside the ground.

Linfield's your team, so you stay with them while following United from afar.

I'm afraid you're just like the rest. A glory hunter.

You can't support two teams!!!

I have mates here who support Rangers or Celtic as well as Utd.......so if they are drawn against Utd who do you pick?
Utter nonsense....one team and that's that!

I could have supported either Linfield or Utd,your right and I chose Utd...that's where my heart is......but if you check your facts, Linfield have won more trophies so not taking into fact that it costs me a small fortune for flights, match tickets and accommodation then that would make your glory hunter statement absurd!

Edit:I would like to add that this "your not from here" attitude ain't exclusive to Man Utd...this has been going on for years,a lot of the Leeds fan's who support the team now joined in when the had a great side in the seventies as did the millions in Liverpool's hey day in the eighties.....neither from Yorkshire or the Wirral.

...Why are people treating this as new?

Liverpool isn't on the Wirral...

Also, I disagree that one can only have one team. I imagine most regulars on this thread have other teams they look out for besides their 'main' team. For example I'm a Huddersfield fan but also have a soft spot for Taunton Town; Preston; AFC Wimbledon; and Burscough. Obviously if Huddersfield Town drew one of the others in a cup I'd be supporting them, but that's not an issue for more than 99% of the time.

Hereford United was officially wound-up today. Although I've not been so 'connected' with the club in the last few years, its very sad to see a club that not so long back was in league 1 to go like that. Will always remember the play-off final at Leicester and Ryan Green's goal in extra time to send us up into the football league - cracking day out.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-hereford-worcester-30542821

I am old enough to remember Hereford United being drawn away against Newcastle United in the FA Cup 3rd round in 1972 and drawing 2-2 there. In the reply which was played on a heavy pitch owing to the recent weather conditions, Newcastle United were leading 1-0 but then Ronnie Radford hit a 30-yard shot into the top corner of the Newcastle United net which then took the game into extra-time. Ronnie Radford again was instrumental in the matter of the decisive second Hereford United goal, winning the ball and setting up Ricky George to score the winning goal.

As you regulars on here will be aware, Oldham Athletic are my chosen Football League club (though I let my fellow forum member make the usual match postings about them these days) whilst my non-league side of Hyde is my other football interest, as some of my past postings about them will reveal. To have both league and non-league teams to follow is acceptable in my eyes. I also support Lancashire County Cricket Club and Sale Sharks rugby union club.

If you lived in Linfield, you would not readily admit to following any other Northern Ireland team such as those examples that you have mentioned above.

Oh dear, does my following of non-league Hyde in addition to my main supported team of Oldham Athletic (since the early 1950's) also make me a glory hunter. Have you seen the Hyde "Conference" results over the last two seasons...

Of course not. No one supporting Oldham is a glory hunter.

Why should you? There are any number of reasons that people support football clubs. Maybe there are strong family ties, maybe you have a favourite player that doesn't play for your local team?
Strange but true, I know of one person that cannot support their local team because of their nickname! Their local team is Barnet, but Barnet are nicknamed The Bees and this person actually has a phobia of bees.

I suspect that many people with an MK postcode refuse to support their nearest football league club because they don't believe it should have the right to exist in its current form. This is the sutuation I am in, living less than 20 miles from the ground of Franchise FC.

Family ties are one reason why someone might not support their local team but generally I think people should support their local side. Supporting is player is not the same as supporting a club - what do you do when the player leaves, transfer your allegiance to that team too ? Totally unacceptable in my book.

My real beef is with those who support ManU, Liverpool, Chelsea because they are successful and because they are on TV all the time. Plastic glory hunters the lot of 'em.

Absolutely all of them? There's plenty of Liverpool fans who I'm sure have stuck by their team during the years where success was just getting into the Champions league, without winning a single trophy. Personally I've been following Man Utd for about 12 years, as my dad always has (family ties - is that acceptable in your book?) and it hasn't all been roses. Last year we were the laughing stock of football fans, but it didn't make a difference to my views regarding the club.

As I said a few pages back, I also support and attend matches of my local club, including the one in my Uni's home city.

Surely, if you want everyone to support their local side and their local side only, then that can't carry on when they move house and move away. Then you'd probably accuse them of being unloyal, transient fans

There's nothing wrong with supporting whichever team you like as long as you don't flip flop and change alleigence when hard times come. Most people around here support Villa or Blues

Slightly off-topic regarding the sport concerned, but most definitely one where a long distance club relocation is involved is the Aviva Premiership rugby union side of London Wasps who have now given their London local supporters the opportunity to "be sent to Coventry" to watch their team play at their new ground at the Ricoh Stadium.

Bit of a task that, bearing in mind Linfield was the name of a mill, not the name of any locale within Belfast. ;)

I knew that a certain forum member would pick me up on this...:D

Lisburn Distillery FC were just known as Distillery FC until they changed their name in 1999 in an attempt to reflect their relocation of some years earlier, but would I be right in thinking that they play in Ballyskeagh?

Looking at the BBC's coverage one would be forgiven for thinking we had not bothered to attend today.

In reality they've currently had to resort to cheating to gain a man advantage

Perhaps they did not consider your opposition worthy enough to make the mention you seek...

Which player was accused of cheating and was he booked for it?

It's long been clear to any somewhat impartial observer that the BBC favours the biggest clubs which must be to the exclusion of other teams. If I said United would you think of Newcastle or West Ham? Same goes for City

edit: Ashley Young (who could use Dio's most famous song as a theme tune) and no but the referee would not have been wrong to give a free kick
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
Dodgy referreeing may also see QPR get three points just before Christmas

FT and I will definitely take a 1-1. Falcao probably cost more than our entire team

AND needless to say Final Score immediately talk about Manchester United's failures

It was not a dive, not at all.

That's not to say that it wasn't a ridiculous decision by the ref - a yellow at most but in reality a ball that both players were entitled to go for - but not a dive.

Although that doesn't fit in with the cheating suggestion...

West Ham, obviously
As for the Ashley Young incident, I've not seen it yet, but both Jermaine Jenas and Martin Keown have both said on Final Score that it was a red card offence.

It's only a pity it doesn't show Young's reaction as that would be important to determine if cheating as involved. Maybe cheating is too strong a word but I cannot help but think we are being picked on when it comes to cards like Stoke used to be

Oh, Jermaine Jenas and Martin Keown are talking out of their backsides, no way is that a red card
