Applied.... finally!
What is wrong with Freightliner website? Twice in last 12 months they have advertised and I have tried to apply. The forms dont work; The second time, I spoke to HR and they said apply manually in writing, so I did. No reply or acknowledgement. Now the above link here wont load at all. I really want this position, but it just seems impossible to get the application software to work?
Why apply then :roll:
Why waste everyones time then?
Have tried Firefox on PC, Safari on Ipad and Chrome on phone. None work. Just tried IE on PC now also and same problem - cant connect to server, or timed out

Have you tried at a friend or relation's house? Still working fine for me on ipad and PC.
I dont get it; all sites except FL work fine on all my devices; FL site - all their pages - dont work on any. Am on fibreoptic broadband as well. Its been the same every time in last 12 months they have advertised. I even called FL previously and they acknowledged problems. I am hugely frustrated. Fred, what device / browser / connection etc you using?

I've BT unlimited BB, using ipad with safari and IE 11 on windows 7
I don't have a degree but was taken on to the graduate course in November. Due to pass out in approximately 2 months! It's their title for a trainee driver. Best of luck to all who apply, it's well worth it
if you dont mind me asking, do you stay on the advertised £18k throughout your training until passed out, or does it gradually increase?

That's the sacrifice you make - good wages for unsociable hours and shifts.
It's worth remembering that you'll only be working a 35 hour week (a nominal figure averaged over a set time) so it's not as if you're going to be living at work is it?
I can see what you're saying, but if it's most evenings and weekends I'm at work that's when my children aren't at school. So I'd have time off when they're at school, and I'd be working when they're free. It's also not really fair on my wife having to constantly looking after them.
If it was working 1 in 3 weekends, or even 50-50 then I'd consider that, but even for the decent wage you can't really put a price on seeing your kids imo

Naturally, all bets are off for those that claim to hate the shifts yet work all free days and volunteer for every minute of o/t!

It's all about a decent work/life balance and is a very personal thing.
You can look at the extremes - take a low hours 9-3 job paying min. wage and get to see your kids and take them to school everyday but be very short of cash or sign up for a £60K job on permanent six days a week nightshift.
Neither is ideal - a happy medium is what's needed and, as said earlier, what works for me may not work for you.
It's impossible to answer your question on what the shift patterns actually are as they vary depot to depot - you'll need to see links from each FL depot to make an educated decision. Perhaps a message to their HR bod on here could help you out (kudos to them for registering and taking the time to respond on this forum by the way - perhaps some other companies should think about doing the same!) but there's a chance it could be deemed as rather sensitive information (something I've heard previously but can't understand why exactly!).
As a basic guide - if social hours and weekends free are vital to you then avoid the freight sector in general although FL intermodal are as close to 'office hours' as you're gonna get on the railway (wages lag behind as a direct consequence however).

It's not a case of them being vital, I've researched a lot into driving for passenger trains and the shifts fit in perfectly for my lifestyle. But if there's nights and a majority of weekends then I would have to pass this time. Likewise, if it's only a 50-50 split then that would be fine, you need to work weekends no matter who you drive for afaik.
I was going to get in touch, but I'm not sure with the amount of applicants that they'd be able to get back to me. I might give them a try though.

You have to bare in mind, most freights run at night, hence the shift work.
For me, working nights/shift patterns is the norm as i'm a manager at a supermarket, thus, nothing will be different (apart from the job, of course).

Personally I reckon I would quite like shift work, I've only ever done office hours but still not been able to take the kids to/from school. I think the shifts will give me some room to be able to have that time helping them get ready and taking them to school and/or being able to collect them from the gate! Everyone is different and I hope the shifts put you off

It did say it was submitted but from experience you normally get some kind of automated email but I haven't received anything. I just wanted to make sure as don't want to miss out.

No emails on this one, when the aplication is finnished youll have a message saying FL will be in touch early June if you are through to the next round, if no message then no job.
ok thanks. did you complete the test after the application? anyone know if its a 100% pass requirement as looking back I know I fudged one of the questions!! really annoying.....
I suspect that ideal candidates with 100% pass rate on the application test are more likely to be called forward than ideal candidates that score lower.
Similarly, I doubt getting 100% will help you if your application suggests you are unsuitable anyway.

I applied the other day but at the end of the application form I was never asked to complete a test, I had put down early into the application that I have passed all of the train driver selection process except the dm interview will this be why? I did get a "thanks for applying" at the end regardless. Just don't want to have blown it if there was some sort of test :/
