For those that used the S.T.A.R method on the MMI, could anyone tell me whether it is more appropriate to use it during the interview dissection or when writing down answers to questions before going in?

I only ask because looking at the practice materials, the box to answer each of the 6 questions looks very small ...

You only need to give a brief answer to those 6 questions. As they are only there to help the flow of the MMI interview and check your written communication. You will answer the question in more depth come MMI. Using the STAR method helps you get to the point and not get side tracked.

How have people been getting on with their DM interviews so far? Any indications on time scales to find out if successful? Also has anybody asked about the talent pool?

I got told by the lady yesterday that we would find out by early next week coz this week is pure interviews. I think they might have 4-5 a day.

With regards to the talent pool, if you pass this final stage then you are put into the talent pool and are kept there until placements come up. Apparently there is just 1 left for May but they have many during the year.

I was successful but put on hold as all vacancies were filled (was informed of this at the interview so no surprise), so in the talent pool for now.

As I was applying for Bedford, does this mean I can only be based there or is it any depot where a vacancy arises, travel time permitted of course?

I understand that is designed to weed out any BS! If they are questions that involve life experiences, how you've helped in a crisis etc etc, then if you come up with different answers for the same question then it's a dead give away for BS.

Yep, I was told July course for Kings Cross also.

Hi this is my first post, of many I hope! I'm currently in full time employment and I am looking to forfill a dream of always wanting to be a train driver.

I live in Bedford and I have registered on the FCC website I see the recent trainee driver job applications have closed for Bedford, is this now a waiting game for further trainee jobs to come up?

I'm looking for some initial guidance on where else or what else I can be doing and would appreciate any help or advice thanks again.

Had my second assessment last Friday, found the SJE and MMI the most difficult parts, 90 minute MMI interview which seemed to fly past!!

Originally I was in the talent pool for Blackfriars pre assessments but I got an offer of the Kings Cross one in March which I jumped at

Just found out one of the guys on my assessment has just got his email saying he didn't pass which was surprising as he was from a background I thought would be what they would be looking for, so you just don't know which makes it harder

Morning All,

Has anyone else here heard back from their structured interviews/second assessment days as yet? I got the nod yesterday and have managed to squeeze through to the driver manager interview so am well pleased with this.

Good luck to those who are still to sit theirs. It's not as bad as i thought it would be, just try to relax as best you can as it'll really help....

I have also been given the fantastic news that I made it through stage 2. Really tough getting this far but pleased I haven't let myself down. Along the way I have meet some really nice, dedicated and focused people and I wish you all the very best for the final hurdles!
