HST with Paxman Valenta 12RP200L. As a kid I loved being deafened by the noise these made on departure!

Still like the HSTs overall, although some of their soul has been ripped out with the MTU engines and interior refurbs. But, hey, that's progress.

Just wish I was a bit older to have been able to experience WR Diesel Hydraulics in service. Only a scarce few trips behind Warships and Westerns on heritage railways.

Anybody like 175s? I know they had issues but I've always like them. Quite Comfortable for a medium distance commuter train. I think I just like the looks especially with the old FWN livery.

Just noticed some one mentioned 180s, they were part of the same family (Coradia 1000) the 180s just had better aerodynamics and higher top speed. They were supposed for be for First's flagship services for FNW and FGW.

Yes, I like 175s but living in Epsom I don't often get the chance to ride one!

My favourite seat in them is a forward facing airline seat as far back in the carriage as possible. Window seat of course!

175s are alright, unrefurbished ones are looking a bit tatty now though.

I'm pretty sure the 180s were originally ordered for FNW's London services, but they ceased before the 180s went into service hence they went straight to FGW.

There was a marked difference in the quality of the 175s as soon as ATW took over the running of the Holyhead Manchester route. FNW took good care of the 175 stock kept them nice and clean, ATW on the other hand let them deteriorate. Are they being refurnished already? they can't be older than 10 years.

I travelled from Chester to Crewe on one yesterday that had ATW upholstery/seat coverings, it's much smarter than the tired FNW upholstery.

It's been years since I've been on a 175, I drive everywhere now. The only journeys I do are to Liverpool on the crappy 508s, it's always fun when the air bags bottom out and you get a thud, not to mention the noise they make considering they're electric trains.

I should elaborate?

Class 170s - happy memories (and that time that makes me go "why the f*** did you say that?!) for a start. Travelling places with friends, extremely comfortable seats, and that one time on a summer's evening when one coasted the 17 or so miles from Drumochter Summit to Blair Atholl. The struggle to the summit, the fading of the engine to nothing, then the beautiful views.

For me it's 318s closely followed by 314s and 156s, don't really know why, but I love the sound of a 156 thrashing it's nuts off .

Put a Steam loco up front and that'll do me. Otherwise, hit me up with a 318 or 158.

Oh, I also think the 156 is one of my favourites looks-wise. This is especially true in the barbie livery.

Short answer = almost anything loco hauled (won't bore you all by listing specific likes and dislikes)

Class 25 on a train of unfitted Grampii. Some of the happiest nights/days of my life filling them with spoil.

Pure engineering with no paperwork to fill in, and no safety manager with a degree in media studies telling you what you can and can not do.

I like them, although I prefered the FNW livery to this current one but I guess they're Arriva trains now so it's no surprise. I'e always thought they sound good too, particularly when they used to have the hydro-dynamic brake working, made a pretty awesome noise for slowing down!

Some of the fold down tables were ripped/taken out for some reason a few years back, been put back in now.

175110 and 175008 had this livery for a few years until repainted into the standard Arriva colours last year -

The "ghostly" Arriva livery was better than the one they went for in the end. Still not as good as the FNW livery though.

I really don't have a favourite as I'm happy regardless of traction although I tend to avoid Pacers where possible I do realise this isn't always possible.

As long as I can enjoy a nice kip and I can on most types of traction, I'm happy whatever the traction is,
