I live on the Cumbrian Coastline, regularly using the service to commute. I have to say that I prefer the 142's, on the odd occasions they appear on the line! OK, they're a little bouncy, but they actually glide over the rails better than the usual 153/156's do!
Saying that though, on Wednesday (8th December 2010), I was on 156452, which was rather good!
Venturing off the Cumbrian Coastline, my favourite has to be the 390!

Glad ATW's 175 are getting a refurb, and thankfully the 158s too(ugh horrible trains).

FGW HSTs??? Oh god they make me cringe.

As for me. HSTs (esp FGWs prior to the refrurb), Mk 2s and 3s, 47s, 87s, 90s 156s, 158s and also quite like 170s.

395s are fine until you step inside!! Then you soon realise where they were built. Bloomin awful.

I'd have to say, for reliability, comfort - i.e plenty of facing seats, ease of getting in and out, availability of compartments, sympathetic refurbishment and generally being there when and where you need them to be, I'm going to have to go for the humble VEP.

The Locomotives I like are 37's, HST's (surely the best british train around?!) and 86's, happy memories riding behind them to Norwich to go on holiday. DMU's I've got to admit I love the Pacers they're a rather 'fun' multiple unit . I also like 150's, this stems from being deafened by them as a little boy pulling out of the stations on the GOBLIN. EMU's I like are the 313's and the Pendolino's, it's brilliant watching them thunder through Harrow & Wealdstone.

a few years ago i was on a pacer doing 90 before the spy in the cab, I didnt realise things could shake so much lol, pacers are fine for short jobs but the heating is cack, give me a nice warm 156 or 323 any day

Pretty much anything that's not a DMU makes me happy these days! Sleepers. Electrostars.

But absolute favourite would be Mk4s hauled by a double faerlie on the Festiniog

On the DMU front, I grew up with 150s, so it would have to be those.

Clas 318 emus as they are nice and comfy and they have a table to put drinks on unlike the class 334 emus! Looking forward to class 320 emus coming onto Argyle Line services though!

WB64 is my favourite set, as much as I like 225s the only window you can stick your head out of is the DVT and that's first class end.

the 158's do something for me, always used to be a sign of the seaside when i was a kid. (sheffield-cleethorpes)

like the windows tables and love using them from leeds to barnsley

Have to agree with Jimmylowl1992 on that one, i've grown up beside the Chester - Shrewsbury line and 158's have always provided the backbone to that railway and have always enjoyed a good thrash sitting in the right seat and feeling the diesel engine really going for it with a lot of comfort too!
they sound damn good when it's cold!
