Would passengers be allowed on an ECS move?

Happened to me once, but thankfully didn't go that far.

Arrived at Skipton to find a 333 that had Leeds on the destination board. Knowing that a Leeds train was due to depart from that platform in 15 mins and Skipton been as far as a 333 can go assumed that the train at the platform was the train I wanted. Sat down and train doors closed, nothing different then train moves the wrong way.

So there is me running up the train and waited for the driver to come out who found it rather funny and made me walk along the line with him after parking the train up to find that my Leeds train was actually coming from Carlisle

had endless incidents with busses - being sight impared means I often must ask drivers for assistance with stops and often am forgotten. One guy refused to even radio controll at the end of the run in the middle of nowhere and i had to fork out for a taxi. The bus company did however pay when i complained. Had one incident on a train when had been working all day, nodded off and happened to be in a coach with no working loudspeekers. Guard was fine, driver wasnt and only reasured him by saying that I'd write to the toc explaining what had happened and that the guard offered to help and thankfully said toc were great and assured me that the driver would öt be given any trubble.

On the 378s with interconnected carriages and no outside carriage door close button, you do have a few "I really hope there's no one on it still" moments when going ECS. From West Croydon into the turnback it's not so much a problem as the dispatcher walks through the train, with a cleaner as well, so there's never usually a problem there. It's more awkward if you're finsihing at Crystal Palace or Highbury. At those two stations after pulling in, I do an announcement and close the doors whilst looking through. I then walk through the train to the other cab and if someone is still on it, which has never happened to me, then I would let them out of the cab door. Platform 2 at Highbury is the trickier one as you get people still trying to get on, despite the lights being off and "Not In Service" on the external screens. You can't quickly release then close the doors there to get the DOO cameras up as someone will get in!

Yes its called a Guard!

When we arrive at say Willesden Low Level from Stratford on the last two services at night. The Guard often has the doors closed before the driver has taken his key out.

It happened to a mate a few years ago, travelling on the last train from Brighton to Eastbourne and fell asleep and was woken by the guard in Hastings. He and a couple of other passengers were allowed to return to Eastbourne, so long as they all sat together.

The train made a detour to the Eastbourne platforms, so I assume control were aware.

I worked the last train to Shepperton one night and there were about 10 teenagers there trying to get back to Twickenham, they were being polite and had made a genuine mistake so I had a chat with the driver as he changed ends to get permission to carry them back to Strawberry Hill station where the train reversed to get into the depot (its only a half hour walk from there to Twickenham) when one of them started to get gobby, effing and blinding at me about "its your ****ing job to carry us you tw@" was one of the various insults and also much talk of "your responsible for our safety" etc, the result was the doors were closed, the others told that he had just got them all stuck as I wasnt taking any abuse when I was going to help them so take it up with him. As we left (empty) they were seen chasing him down the station approach road!

It wont happen as a matter of course but can happen in VERY exceptional circumstances and only with controls permission as stated .

Say, for example...

Dunblane Station, platform 1, is wheelchair friendly. Platform 2&3 are not.

However, 90% of services calling at Platforms 2&3 will (sometimes after a short wait), draw forward past the signal box then return to platform 1 for the return journey.

Is the correct thing to do to drop ramp and let wheelchair bound passenger off on platform 2&3 and hope a kind fellow passenger bump them up and down either bridge?

To allow passenger to remain on board whilst service undertakes the undertakes the ECS move?

No to both the above, the passenger would be detrained at Stirling & taxied to their destination. Although there used to be an old dear who would hide in the toilet as the train approached Dunblane if she had heavy bags to avoid the stairs - the onboard staff soon tumbled to that!

This is a frequent problem as I understand it, enthusiasts asking to be allowed on to an ECS move. This is all good should it be the drivers decision but it isn't as previously discussed in this thread.
The only [ex]ECS move that you can do that I am aware of is the Kennington Loop on the Northern Line (LU), you are asked to leave the train but as its DOO, I have seen plenty of pax travel on it.

I know with my work unless you have a ECS competency certificate, you cannot travel from depot to St Pancras. I should imagine its the same for other depot staff around the country. If I am wrong then please enlighten me!
