What a sorry state of affairs - at this rate, I would absolutely amazed if the 196s enter service this year, never mind in a few weeks’ or months’ time.

They had to isolate to get one moving out the shed a few weeks ago. Just an example of how these units are still not ready for service. It's not just a case of waiting on a few door panels which seems to be suggested.

That happens with many units. Ive had to isolate different things on different units many times across the years, to get them going. Just one unit having a system isolated a few weeks ago isn't really anything to worry about. There's obviously other things going on causing the delay.

Presumably an issue with one of the safety systems preventing the unit gaining traction, isolating it will resolve it temporarily. Happens sometimes.

It appears that a trio of 196s moved from Bletchley to Tyseley earlier this week. I'm lead to believe that 196104 lead and 196010 brought up the rear - can anyone confirm this and also add the ID of the middle unit please?

196104 is a 4 car set, 196010 is a two car set..... 6 cars but only two units. (not 3 x 2 car units!)

I just looked it up. A snail will do 0.048 km/h which is 0.029825817 mph.

The distance from Land's End to John o'Groats is 874 miles. Divide that by the speed, and you get 29303.4722234 hours. Divide that by 60 and you get 488.391203723 days. Let's call that 489 days. That means that if the 196 has not entered service by 26th July 2023, the snail will have won.

Haha absolutely love the mental arithmetic; but I think you meant divided by 24, which equates to a tad under 1221 days - works out to, I think, 31st July 2025. Put it this way, with the glacial speed at which things are proceeding, I’d probably still win my bet .

PS: If the deadline were actually 26th July 2023, I might have considered doubling my stake!

Little update from 196113. Tow cars has now become Three cars as of 30/3/22. Hopefully the 4th and final car will arrive either this afternoon or tonight or tomorrow. have to keep an eye out.

Update further 5Q94 1156 Tyseley L.M.D to Long Marston has been declared a failure near to Norton Junction at 1610 hours.
37601 has a air compressor fault.
So will most likely spend the night at Worcester. So ironic that the 37 and 196s will need rescuing. Especially iff any other 196s are at Worcester under their own power. Stabled there.
