Wikipedia still has Edginswell merely as a "proposed" station. As for Marsh Barton Wikipedia says construction to start early this year with planned opening for December this year.Do we know what the current progress is with Marsh Barton and Edginswell stations? Either are more than likely to now be 2018 openings.
I thought those sidings were OOU nowadays? Some photos I have from 2013 show that the crossover at the east end of Wareham station was missing some track. However the platforms at Wareham both have bi-directional signalling and there is also a crossover between Wareham station and Worgret Junction.....No. IIRC The Swanage Railway will be running through the station, and using the sidings to the east of the station [.....]
Interesting. I presume that this will be the first heritage railway to share tracks and platforms with the national rail network? I hope SWT passengers dont get on the wrong train by accident!
Abergele down platform will close in the very near future, the 15mph loop removed and the station extended outward to the 85mph main line. Then it will open again. So technically, Abergele! ;0)

..... so my guess is that trains from Swanage will start from / terminate at Platform 1 at Wareham.

Thanks for the sort of update then. Edginswell seems to have gone a little quiet after the car park wrangling, but it's good to hear Marsh Barton will be potentially opening this year.
Incidentally, does anyone know the current progress of Reading's Green Park station? There seems to be a large amount of site clearance happening again with contractors vehicles and associated bits moving ever closer to the lineside. There has also been a lot - and I mean a lot! of Marking out with green spray cans around the down line side.
I thought Maghull North was still scheduled for December 2017
Haven't network rail been building Ilkeston station for around three years now? When NR are on the job you certainly get action.
Wow four stations opening all year. Gosh it's great to see how our railways are expanding.
I remember when the Kenilworth reopening campaign started over 40 years ago. Finally it may happen.

They have been renovating belper station for at least four years. Havemt got very far though.
I know I'm being very cynical, but if the railways were really doing well then we may see a bit more activity.
The TOCS aren't interested in new lines and stations as it eats into their profits.
This is the problem with private companies running a social service. Their aims and objectives are diametrically opposite.
The TOCS primary loyalty is to the shareholders and all else is secondary. This is why our railways are in such a mess.
And if I ran a large business my main aim would be to make profit. The sytem is at fault. The TOCS are just doing their job.
And that is to maximise profit at the expense of all else.
Sadly it's a little more complex than that become the TOCS are financed by the taxpayer.
And that's yet another inherent contradiction within the current system.
I'm impressed four stations are opening. It's boom time for passengers and in kenilworth they can make a cake for the opening and date it 1975 to 2017. Fourth plus years must be a record for getting a station reopened.
Steam services to Wareham are long term, initially the service will be DMU operated, so there is no need to run round. Both lines between Worgret and Wareham are bi directional to give greater flexibility.
Use of one of the bay platforms again is along term possibility. The service is planned to run on 50 days in 2017 and is planned to expand to 90 in subsequent years.
Update
Having visited the SR yesterday, and reading this http://http://www.swanagerailway.co.uk/userfiles/downloads/wareham_services_news_sept_2016.pdf
I'm not so sure. The reason is that delivery of new wheelsets has not yet happened, being described as a farce, the SR are determined to start the service in June 2017 and are discussing hiring from SWT as it appears that the DMU's will not be ready in time. This may involve their own carriages and a hired loco and crew from SWT
