Or that all modern traction sucks and is plastic. My comeback to that is 'at least it doesn't take three days to get up to speed and half the journey to brake'.

Others include "dose" instead of "does", "baited" instead of "bated". When someone says they have "baited breath", I wonder what they are trying to catch

In all fairness, its' can be a typo. I sometimes catch myself doing that, or saying dont' or maybe don;t. The keyboard I am on is not only crap but hinders my typing speed and accuracy horrendously. I'm just too much of a cheapskate to replace it and then untangle all of the wires...

I also hate when people say strait instead of straight.

What REALLY REALLY is getting annoying now is the BBCs continual buggering about with the Last Night at the Proms....presumably on the basis of modernising it :roll::roll:

Last night was absolutely appalling, not only an American Conductor (again.......for God's sake this is an ENGLISH INSTITUTION), but Rory Bremner and some woman coming in with fake shotguns and pretending to shoot members of the orchestra, who in any case were "playing" Vacuum Cleaners !

Why they just cannot leave things alone I do not know, and once again I have spent a small fortune and come away less than satisfied.

Damn thing needs to be taken away from the BBC and given to some other Channel who will keep up the tradition.

Last night I had an American Conductor (again.......for God's sake)

Which route was that on, if I may ask? I know that the 38 to Clapton used to have those back when it was run on Routemasters, but didn't LT scrap them all (And the conductors with them) due to all of this "Health and Safety" rubbish that's been doing the rounds recently?...

Also...Since when did LT employ American conductors anyway? I used to see plenty of British, Indian and Polish conductors doing the rounds, but no Yanks... :?

- London Midland staff at Euston refusing to open train doors until 5 mins (or similar) before departure. I usually object to this sort of thing, but in terms of railways, Im ok, with it.
The problem is, too many old staff used the term "passengers" with complete contempt, interchangable with "cattle". "Customers" is in this case an improvement.

But this one annoys me too. The repeated safety announcement on First Great Western local services is nothing short of hideous. and Ive been in stations many times where the "next train" announcement gets stuck, and the whole message, including the full list of stations, gets repeated over and over and over......

Not much doubt about the worst. It's got to be West Midlands Travel. Dirty, noisy, smelly. Late, very late or cancelled. It's their fault I've got such a loathing of buses. 'Our greenest ever bus' proclaims the stickers on some of their newer buses - that's the colour of the passengers' faces.

I've always found First's P&R bendies in York surprisingly pleasant by comparison.

As a Scot, I do not associate with the Last Night of the Proms; not one part of the show is Scottish (other than the token "Charlie is my Darlin'" sung up in Glasgow).

I just wish they'd stop going on about how British it all is; Scotland is culturally completely separate from England, and Scots as a whole do not find these "Great British Institutions" patriotic or anything; they're English, just please refer to them as such.

And, to just prove a point, I don't imagine many English people feeling patriotic at Highland Games, Bagpipes and the like; but these are just as British as The Proms technically speaking. But they're Scottish.

So, what annoys me, is that English and British are considered interchangeable terms, when they are not, and Scottish is considered separate whilst Scotland is (at the moment) part of the United Kingdom.

While we're on the subject of the Proms, I'm irritated by the BBC's slavish obsession with performing 'new music'. I mean, it's very noble and all that, but I'm afraid I just don't like it - every Prom I went to (almost) had at least one piece that was, frankly, noise.

Of course, that's my opinion, and I fully appreciate many others may enjoy these pieces, so I can't expect them to disappear - and it's better that way, I guess, as it allows new music to be performed and therefore gives modern composers a chance to 'shine' - a praiseworthy - and worthwhile - objective.

However, narrow-minded as I am it still irritates me!

To be a pedantic git, LRT's 666 is a Trident - clicky. Formerly used on Airlinks, so it has a nice table upstairs!
