The rail zones won't be scrapped as they are needed for the Metrocards which vary greatly in price.
Losing Metro bus timetables would be a bad idea because although operator ones may look more stylish in some cases, you'd get very poor offerings or none at all by the smaller operators, and there would be poor distribution and availability. Arriva run just two services into Halifax, would they ensure that their timetables are always available in Halifax, probably not.
I personally think that the smaller independants would just produce a single book that contains all of their services in it - South Pennine CT produce their own set of timetables and are often the only timetables available for their services instead of the WYCA one which, I've found, is quite hard to get hold of. I do believe that TLC, Watersons M Travel and Stotts (the latter who already produce one for the Boxing Day freebie, the H11) would also provide their own in book form.
Arriva have produced their own for the 254 and 255 (amongst others) in the recent past which were also available onboard and may do so again, as for the 278 they may just provide a photocopied sheet, which in my view is better than nowt.
There is the problem which is the Dalesbus timetable which I do think would be the only one of a few (the others being the MetroLocals and the two Daytripper services - the 10 and the 951) which would be kept but I honestly think that the scrapping of the West Yorkshire rail timetables will be the start of it though, hence why I do think that in the near future the bus timetables will go too.
