At Manchester Picadilly nearly all Euston trains cancelled due to OHL. According to NRE this is between Rugby and Milton Keynes. The 6.27 via Birmingham is running does anyone kmow how that gets through.

It's probably a Voyager.

This isn't going to help the WCML's image to the commuters this nippy Friday morn! If this isn't rectified quickly, I suspect Southern might get a few more commuters for Watford Junction! :D

Looks like a dewirement involving 5Y76 (0355 Northampton - Milton Keynes - Rugby). Damage to pans on both units (350103 and 237).

I know this will sound a bit naïve but is there a dodgy batch of wire from a supplier? Since the MML, ECML and now WCML have experienced rather serious dewirements in a short time period, I can't help wonder...

Or is it just down to poor maintenance regimes?

Well, it can hardly be blamed on the weather last night or early this morning...! But I suppose that a junction must tend to be somewhat more risky?

It's nice to see that Virgin already have an alternative routes information poster available, haven't seen this with East Coast when they wires are down. Hopefully my train from York tonight won't be too full!

When there were problems at Darlington last year I think National Rail produced one based on the network map, but Virgins is much more professional. The only thing is, it shows routes as one through train-no trains to Birmingham from paddington! A summary of the routes and tocs involved would be good.

5Y76 is on the fasts, problem is reported to be on the slows with hopes of fasts opening once 5Y76 is moved off from last message I saw.

Out of interest, does anybody know whether other wired countries have these problems on a similar frequency to GB? Especially if they have more mileage of wires this would be a good indicator of if we have a worse maintanance problem with our ohle. Although I expect we might have a higher frequency of trains that should be taken into account.

No it isn't. The 06:27 from Manchester is asbsolutely rammed all the way through the West Midlands down to Rugby when it is a 9-car Pendolino, as it was today - A Voyager would be no good at all for that service.

Incidentally this train was cancelled at Rugby, it didn't make it to Euston.

Heh, I read the title as West Coast OHL damage "one of three" :)

Well I am on the 10:35 in lieu of the 10:55 which is cancelled. Guard has just announced we should go straight through to Euston

ETA 12:42 now 12:50

I think the people on the up Sleepers would have had a long lie in - with the Up Lowland arriving into Euston at 1027 - 3 hours and 45 minutes late and the Up Highland arriving at 1035 2 hours 48 minutes late !

Anyone have any idea what train brought them down ? Since 5Y76 was on the fasts it couldnt have been that.

5Y76 was crossing from the Slows to the Fasts at Ledburn Junction when it brought the wires down. For 5Y76 to have both pantographs lost or damaged but not bring the wires down would be a remarkable coincidence and little short of a miracle!

Why are LM only running a half hourly shuttle between MKC & EUS when there were spare trains at Bletchley this morning? Plus, why was a 92 hauled freight train blocking the down slow between Bletchley & MKC?

Having a good excuse for why they are not running trains, they "MAY" be taking the opportunity to mend the toilets.

Yet another WCML Notwork Rail infrastructure failure. Now the worst of winter and rain seems to be past I think next week I'll start a count.

it seems rather coincidental that there's been an OHLE train at Tring this week, I got the impression that Network Rail ahve been doing some OHL maintenance overnight this week

I would suggest that the principal reasons would be a lack of available paths on the fast lines for the slower London Midland train services and a probable lack of traincrew caused by them being out of place due to the disruption. In general, due to attempting to provide a robust, workable emergency timetable in the face of the constraints thrown up by a period of extreme disruption.
Plus, why was a 92 hauled freight train blocking the down slow between Bletchley & MKC?
Depending on what length of line the dewirement knocked the power out over, or that Network Rail decided that they needed to take a block over, the train might have had no power. Alternately, it may not have been a high priority to get shifted with only two running lines available for use and the signallers focusing on restoring the passenger services to as near to normal as possible.

Was on the 0845 off Wolverhampton this morning, announced as terminating at Rugby just before departure. At Sandwell & Dudley their displays were still showing London Euston, as was the 0956 from there later. For some reason Sandwell & Dudley were not getting the information.

Just gone past the site on the up fast at 50mph. Up slow closed and what appearaed to be new wire was being installed on the down slow.

ETA now 12:44 :) 12:54 :(

Arrived at 13:00 so weekend plans still on "track", thanks to everyone who was working hard to minimise the disruption

The principle reason is that LM are plain useless. They never have any ability to do anything out of the ordinary or a semblance of service recovery and it looks like an another pathetic show of giving up this morning.
