More importantly are they Vac braked?
Mk2as are air braked and helpfully dual heat, so should have a dynamo to avoid the need for ETS.

Riley's black 5s are mostly, if not all, dual braked.

Overall sounds like a practical solution that ticks the boxes.

Yes I agree for the Jacobite but as discussed further up this thread, I would now say that leaves WCR dangerously short of air braked locos in England and Wales (34028 & 34067).

Unless a MK1 rake is not far off being sorted?

I would like to know about the construction of the Mk1 coaches. I assume steel frames and sheet metal sides but what about the rest.
On a timber framed coach, CDL would not be safe for passengers in case of a fire.

There is a book:
British Railways Mark 1 and Mark 2 Coaching Stock, Hugh Longworth, OPC, http://crecy.co.uk, ISBN 9781910809754

CDL would be a challenge on any vehicle in the event of fire . the key is what is the emergency release

Presumably the design (if different to the ones used by LSL or Vintage Trains) would need approving by an "Independant Competent Person"
ROGS states that an ICP is required where the change introduces a new or significantly increased risk to safety. There is an argument that fitting a ‘known’ CDL system (be that BR-style air-operated or VT-style mag locks) does not increase that risk… although not one I would personally make.

There is however no requirement for the ICP to be appointed by, or from, the ORR, and it is possible for an ICP (although again not best practice) to be internal if they are sufficiently distanced and objective from the modification being assessed. There should, however, be diligent record keeping as per the SMS in the event of an ORR spot check.

14 photographs of 5Z10 are here: 37518 An Gearasdan / Fort William, 44871 & 45407 T… - North west trains, 2026 - andrewstransport https://share.google/fsowOyKpFeklN9Ns0
From those photo's it appears the rear seven coaches are already formed up for the service train which makes sense however the third vehicle from the rear is MkI buffet 99318. In the photo of 99318 it appears to have amber indicators next to the passenger door which may indicate it has CDL fitted however I can't see an external emergency release handle on the vehicle bodyside unlike the MkII's.

This YouTube video from "DRS37425" also appears to show amber external indicators on 99318 at 1:15, so did 99318 have CDL previously or has it been fitted recently?

List is correct.

I think former Caley Mk. 3 Sleeper 10718 is still at FW (presumably acting as a dormitory for the Jacobite crews) - it went north with the stock at the start of the 2025 season.

Has that Hastings unit on the website got central door locking because there's no sign of an outside door light, and if not then what's going on there?
Penrith last Friday on the “GOSH Ness Monster” - CDL lights lit but obviously people didn’t detrain through the non-platformed doors!!!
