whereas you, no doubt, will be very pleased that America have a elected a vain, narcissistic, megalomaniac billionaire to power. I mean how could that be a threat to the security or economic standing of the democratic world?

Clinton wasn't much better, I mean who gets their staff to smash up Blackberries with hammers if they aren't as guilty as hell.
Her background is extremely iffy and she could well be in a cell quite soon.

If this thread goes the same way as the Brexit thread we can look forward to a hundred pages of moaning that the result was a mistake and a rerun is required.

I wasn't greatly fussed either way but I accept the outcome, will people ever learn to ignore the pollsters?

And demands for a rerun, people didn't know what they were voting for, etc etc etc etc!

Might as well just cut and paste the brexit thread:lol:!

America will get a re-run in 2020. By then it will be too late for a brexit re-run.

The metropolitan elite seem to be getting the same wake up call they did here with the Brexit Vote.

"The Peasants" are well and truly revolting.

The American equivalent of "Granola munching Guardian Readers" are feeling with the wrath of the proletariat. It's amazing how considerate they are to the underlings until they disagree with them and vote for someone like Trump. The poor then become bigots and racists :p

If Trump is elected President I think he should be given a chance and I believe he will be a lot more moderate than his belicose electioneering would lead people to believe.

I hope you're right...

It'll be an interesting four years to come - I'm not that surprised at the result, but there is a big difference between campaigning rhetoric and the day-to-day political pragmatism necessary to get things through Congress and the Senate (both houses might have a Republican majority now, but the party is pretty divided so it's not going to be plain sailing).

The only hope I have is that trump will essentially have very little power and at least we have been spared the fallout from trump if he lost.
Again though it's the USA not russia or some dictatorship where you feel you have to vote for one person despite how dodgy the candidate is.
Hopefully no other leaders will listen to him or at least will humor him.
I can sort of see the wall being built and being paid by Mexico, not to keep the mexicans out of America but to keep trump out of mexico.

At least the world leaders have been able to have a good chuckle at America this morning esp. when trump realises that in reality he has less power that the queen has in Britain.

America was warned in June that this would happen. The Democrats voted for Clinton rather than Sanders, and they lost the "anti-establishment" vote.

The western world has been progressing too fast. Change was promised in America in 2008, and change happened -- very very slowly. The economy survived the recession and prospered

However half the country got left behind, and it's nothing Trump will be able to fix, but people are unhappy with being left behind.

The left seem to have got into a habit of losing.

European election - lost
General Election - lost
Referendum - lost
USA election - lost

German and French elections upcoming which may well go the same way.
I wonder if the left might think they don't have the right message.

This.

There are winds of change blowing across the world, and now it's time for the boot to be on the other foot.

Am I surprised by the result? No. The experts got it wrong with Brexit and they did the same with Trump - they have worse form backing a winner since my Gramps (God rest him) did with the gee-gees.

I won't be doing cartwheels, but I do think his victory is another one in the eye for the Global Elites and maybe a sign that the people are now in charge. Trump may be all sorts of things, but he can change and adapt - I just wonder if those who have been quick to criticise him will be as quick to praise him should he change and become more of a Statesman than a Businessman done well. It is going to be a big step-up for him, so it's up to him now to deliver.

'I don't want four years of Trump' some say, well 30+ years of Hilary hasn't exactly changed the USA for the better. Watergate and Benghazi were always sticking points, but I think that once she lost a) the support of liberals and the young radicals supporting Sanders and ABH (Anybody But Hilary) and then b) large numbers of the Homosexual community after the Orlando atrocity, it was going to be difficult to win them back. Four years of a racist in charge or four years of somebody who is despised and feared by even her own staff.... difficult one to call.

Plus, it is fun to see the SJW idiots cry because 'The Don' pulled off the seemingly impossible.

Sanders v Trump would have been a lot closer, but maybe more volatile than Clinton v Trump. You would have had two extremes voting to keep the other out, and that would have divided the USA even more.

Trump may want a wall, but the Sanders millennials already have four of them around their safe spaces.

None of those were 'left' losses, how on earth do you get that idea.

I can moan all I like. This is democracy after all.

One of the sad things about Trump is he's not a good businessman. He lost a billion dollars in a single year, he's declared bankrupcy 4 times. But hey, he's not a successful businessman, but he plays one on tv.

You'll probably find that a few of our Politicians are also bankrupts, and how much money did the bankers lose in 2008?

The guy has made mistakes, but so has Hilary and so has Barack.

I bet that none of us are saints (well, maybe those who support Southampton FC are) so judge not lest ye be judged.

If he screws up then get rid of him, by all means, but the guy has got the votes so he deserves this chance to double down and to be the 45th POTUS.

I may not like him, but I can think of far worse people in the world than him.

Better not say that, he might sue you :D
Lets see what happens when a failure runs the country shall we? Brilliant idea

That is one of the better things about the uk version of the apprentice is that Alan Sugar might have had some failed products but at least he know how to not just make money but build a business from the ground up.

Trump must feel like a rabbit in the headlights right now hoping that his team can do the job for him whilst he just acts as the figurehead or hoping that it has all been a dream. too bad really that America were not allowed a real election with people that were actually worth voting for but that is a completely different matter.

Yes, I can certainly see how the election of a billionaire real estate developer and financier is "one in the eye for Global Elites"...

I think that misses the point - Trump knows exactly what he is going to do - make it up as he goes along and foster the personality cult which has got him elected. The only real question is can we all survive four years of making it up as you go along based on "Make America Great Again"? If he sinks the Paris climate change treaty on the basis that it's all a Chinese plot (as he has promised specifically to do) then the long term prospects are pretty dire.

Looks like the toys are coming out of the pram on here because some people didn't get the outcome that they wanted.
That is deeply worrying, given some of the things he's said are completely unacceptable.

One thing he is definitely right about is how NATO is largely financed by the Americans.
All the countries who shelter under the NATO umbrella will be required to make massively bigger contributions both militarily and financially instead of letting America pay for 75% of the cost of defending Europe.
If Trump does take America out of NATO as he's said he might then Europe will have one hell of a wake-up call as they might actually have to look after themselves.

One of the most bizarre posts ever. If Trump is not a member of whatever "elite" you talk of, it's difficult to imagine what strange definition of "elite" you are using!

The term Global Elite is mainly used to describe those politicians and powerful people who wish to bring around something called the New World Order (or NWO).

https://archive.org/stream/TheNewWorldOrder_342/TheNewWorldOrder_djvu.txt

Despite being who he is, Trump rejected the money of the Koch's, Rockefeller's and Rothschild's. He is also willing to work with Russia (who have an anti-NWO leader in Vladamir Putin). That is why he can be seen as anti Global Elite and anti NWO.

More Fargian sillyness. Global Elties  Do you actually believe that? In any event Trump isnt breaking any global elites. He is part of that elite. He is an inherited billionaire not someone who has swept the streets for 20 years. He isnt even a very good businessman if the truth be told.

You seem happy to embrace ignorance, lack of education and fear rather than trying to combat them and improve things for everyone. Then you seem to want to celebrate the fact that stupidity and ignorance rules!

Plus, it is fun to see the SJW idiots cry because 'The Don' pulled off the seemingly impossible.

What is an SJW idiot?

There you go again - anyone who isnt the same as you lives in some kind of separate enclave. Such silliness.

We have gone full on zionist led world conspiracy. Pass me the tin foil. You should just stop.

One only has to look at the chapter titles of that book to completely debunk it. Perilously concerning that people actually give credence to stuff like this, and people like Milo Yiannopolous.

Ignorance is the new global currency.

I'm certainly no apologist for Trump but we've got to accept the outcome of the ballot box.

OK, I'll be first on here to predict a result - Clinton 303 (she needs 270). With my track record on the Brexit vote, that probably means Trump will win by a country mile, in which case I must look out my cyanide pills.

Found 'em yet? <D
