Just read that in the cold light of day. You won't go to a pub that asks for information from you that you have to give for the deliveries you order because you won't wear a mask that you don't actually have to wear anyway. Really?
No it's not like that.

I can't wear a mask so I can't go in shops, that's straightforward enough.

When I give my details to get a delivery, I am not at risk of an arbitrary 14 day prison sentence as a result of doing so.
I'm also not risking my data being left open on a sheet of paper for anyone to see, nor am I risking it being sent straight to the government.

I think you make my point eloquently.

I don't know where you live, but I'd say something is very wrong if there is no exemption made for those who can't wear masks.

(By the way, if you're worried about arbitrary (rather than justified) "prison sentences" though, how do you know that if a courier tests positive the authorities won't tell everyone to isolate that they have delivered to?)

Because those aren't the criteria being used for "close contact" by T&T?

If the app is seen as a possible invasion of your privacy, take a look at this legislation https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2020/973/made?view=plain

That didn’t take long....

My McDonald’s experience in Glasgow was not bad, mask on just got asked if I was sitting or taking away, I went with taking it (floor manager had to tell people to use hand wash station at entrance), it seems under instruction from government(s) this is pushing the boat out now but seems to be given people in frontline of pubs/restaurants needing to ask what a customer is doing.

Noticing most places like Greggs/Subway is limited (either a few chairs or looks like takeaway), I’m noticing it more here than I noticed back in Dundee.. but saying that I am feeling a bit better with it today to yesterday (only minor queues at banks)

That’s fine thank you I rather do that then than sign up to apps! (Costa Coffee had this code)

Not gonna lie I struggle to get it to work too sometimes so opt for frantically trying to pull up the website and put in the code they give (eg Costa) made a right wally of myself yesterday when I came out from swimming! I have to say it does feel a little less..inviting sitting in some places but I guess I can see why. Never mind, found out today I'm coming off furlough soon and I work in retail so...this will be fun.

It's good that today felt less tiresome. I've not been into Dundee yet (apart from one trip to the HMS Unicorn) so not seen how relaxed it is but Glasgow is sounding a bit like how it's been more and more Fife way.

Meanwhile Sweden has today recorded their lowest amount of cases since the early March. Note no compulsory masks in Sweden

It's increasingly looking like they have got it right with a light touch, sustainable, long term approach.

We seem to be going for measures such as masks that possibly increase the spread and are not sustainable because of the impact on our economy and quality of.life.

Of course it's to late now to role back the restrictions. If you even mention it your judged to be something between a madman and a mass murdering granny killer by our terrified population.

Perhaps when furlough ends and people are forced to get on with life sanity will return. I certainly hope so as the bigger threat for me is to my poor mentsl health rather than from coronavirus.

I was just surprised plus in general the ways things have turned ever since, I guess everything is learning but the only thing I wish they all do is turn the tone down a bit, that’s the issue I am now seeing especially here. I understand they have to be serious but it’s looking more like they (in fast food places food courts) have it up a notch too far, tone it down, it just seems full blown panic, just explain to customers but also try and understand their point (yesterday I did think I was going to be told to go as I didn’t know what was happening), another thing I noticed that part of St Enoch no music and in McDonald’s...no music? (could keep it low), it just feels eerily without it on!

I can agree to that in terms of Sweden as I have family there, I can vouch for masks the only thing I believe they are doing is distancing (not sure what is I’ll guess 1)?, but it’s normal life there

Just to add: I thought mask dumping was bad locally it seems it happens in Glasgow too!, if the public are done with wearing masks either put in bin or just take them home to be disposed of, it’s getting ridiculous.

You don't think the government might already know who you are and your address?

I hope so too but I doubt it. There was a story from a local paper on my Facebook feed about a disabled man being forced to wear a mask in an Apple store (because he didn't have an "exemption certificate"). Full of comments like "he should just buy online", "he'd have bigger problems on a ventilator", "anyone can buy a certificate, they should be banned and forced to order online" as infinitum.
I know there's no such thing as an exemption certificate BTW!

It’s actually shocking the number of people that don’t know this and demand this (I’ve heard them mentioned his week by an Avanti train manager, a Manchester Tramlink staff member, a McDonald’s worker and a driving instructor), where is everyone getting this idea that they exist and are required from??

I think you can still go to a pub and enter false details on paper if you are concerned about data retention. Is that prohibited in any way??

Don't desert pubs- they are great.

As I understand it, it is now mandatory for pubs to collect the information, whereas before it was voluntary.
I'm not sure if that extends to it being mandatory for a customer to provide said information. In any case, as you rightly point out you could enter false information, and as we don't have identity cards there's no way of verifying. Indeed, if entering it into a simple web form it is by definition not going to be checked for veracity.

And I agree, don't desert pubs, they are indeed wonderful.

Absolutely agreed. I think most people who have done their research agree with this conclusion.

Very true. I feel very uncomfortable at the way kids are spoken to by some adults in York over face coverings, after our pro-mask council lied in a letter sent to schools & parents.

I have not seen any new legislation requiring pubs to collect the information in England, though I will add my usual disclaimer that legislation is being spewed out at a tremendous rate such that I may have missed it.

Entirely possible that it was just another Boris pronouncement that is not law but they know that most people will think it is law...

This is what was released by the government on 10th September

"Premises and venues across England must have a system in place to record contact details of their customers, visitors and staff in the latest move to break the chains of transmission of coronavirus."

I appreciate its not from the legislation but the guidance doesn't mention that you need to record all customers details

Disappointing to hear a story on the Jeremy Vine Show this morning. Woman went into a bank to do bank business and a man comes in without a mask to use a machine. All the bank staff shouting over at him “YOU CAN’T USE THIS, YOU DON’T HAVE A MASK”, no consideration given to whether the man might have been exempt.

Every day I’m becoming more opposed to these mask laws. I’m convinced they don’t work, they make those with invisible disabilities feel labelled and excluded from society (exactly due to the attitude of people like this). I’m (frankly) hating living in Scotland at the moment where I’m having to wear a mask in some ridiculous places (come on, wearing a mask in the pub? That’s just stupid and obviously doesn’t work) and I’m genuinely convinced they don’t work but are dirty and putting me at risk of being infected with other nasty infections (since the mask laws come in I’ve had around 3 nasty chest infections). I realise these laws aren’t going anytime soon, but my anger towards them is growing every day and I don’t at all believe this law is justified. I’m going to be sending a very lengthy email to both my MP and MSP requesting the evidence that masks are effective (very clearly and increasing according to some in Parliament) is released or that a review into whether these laws are justified and effective is conducted immediately. I appreciate this will be likely ignored, but I’m absolutely sick of people going on about how masks are “clearly” effective and the evidence is “increasing” when much of the evidence doesn’t say this and statistics suggest just the opposite.

A bit of light entertainment. Love the final quote.

A man boarded a bus using a snake as a face covering.
The commuter and his reptilian mask, which was wrapped around his neck and mouth, were seen on a bus from Swinton to Manchester on Monday.
One passenger, said she thought the passenger was wearing a "funky mask" until she spotted it slithering over hand rails.
Transport bosses in Greater Manchester confirmed a snake was not a valid face covering.

"While there is a small degree of interpretation that can be applied to this, we do not believe it extends to the use of snakeskin - especially when still attached to the snake."

Indeed. But I was working on the principle that someone concerned over being arbitrarily told to isolate doesn't expect those rules to be followed.

It’s actually shocking the number of people that don’t know this and demand this (I’ve heard them mentioned his week by an Avanti train manager, a Manchester Tramlink staff member, a McDonald’s worker and a driving instructor), where is everyone getting this idea that they exist and are required from??

Well in a sense they do exist, because the government web site gives you a nice one to print out at home, no questions asked. So in a sense you could argue that's an official exemption certificate.

On the same page where they say that not only are such 'certificates' not required, but people shouldn't be 'routinely' challenged to offer any explanation for non mask wearing.

A bit of light entertainment. Love the final quote.

Indeed.

I saw that on a news page but didn't read the story. I confess I assumed it was in the US for some reason. Somehow it being in the UK makes it even funnier.

A screen shot or printout of the page where it says certificates are not required could be used as a certificate. Ironically.

If I have to take any longer journeys on trains, I am intending to do exactly that - and if anyone starts on about 'exemption certificates' show it to them and point out that they should not be asking for something which nobody is required to produce!

Never mind 6 feet, I'd be off that bus. I have a fundamental phobia of snakes.
