I called through to Omio - they understood my point but were not aware of an issue and asked me to email a screenshot. They gave me the email address ubersupport@omio.com which may be useful for future reference. If it’s still not working tomorrow I will send a screenshot (I don’t want to do it now in case it works and I’m stuck with tickets I don’t need).

suggests that buying train tickets with gift cards doesn't work at the moment

Unfortunately, Uber Money funds which are available in your Wallet after you’ve redeemed gift cards cannot be currently spent on Uber Travel products (flight, train, coach). Please note that we’re actively working on changing that.

That FAQ answer is several months old and was probably written when Uber Money redemption on rail tickets was enabled in general. It doesn't specifically relate to today's glitch.

Here's hoping it's sorted out when the next GB Rail Sale begins.

Yes - as Edvid says that is generally considered out of date and superseded by:

Which expressly states that Uber Money can be used for trains.

Thats what I thought but it refused to do it this morning an hour before departure (and also before departure from the origin station of the train too.
Hmm, it should have been fine I think. Can you DM me the details? Cheers

I bought the same ticket today and I was allowed to pay with a combination of Uber Credits and Uber Money.

Bought a ticket this morning on the Uber app from Newcastle to Ashington for today's date and downloaded the ticket to Google Wallet.

Got to the ticket barrier and the ticket wasn't there. It had deleted itself.

Went into the Uber app and redownloaded the ticket and the barriers wouldn't scan it. Kept coming up with an error. Station staff let me through.

The guard on the train scanned the ticket and it came up with an error saying the ticket isn't valid yet. On checking the ticket it is next Monday it is valid on. The guard said it was ok though and let me travel.

Speaking to Uber support online they said they had an issue this morning with their ticketing back office supplier and that some tickets may have been incorrectly sold between 6am and 8am, and that the system is currently reissuing all affected users, however some may have the wrong date, wrong restriction or wrong railcard added to them. They said it was down to the removal of tickets from the GB Rail Sale later today and that the system was incorrectly removing the wrong tickets.

They suggested refunding the ticket at no charge to myself, which I politely declined as I had already travelled, albeit on a different day to the train.

I didn't think much of it at the time when I downloaded the original ticket, thinking it was just a data error but it did give me seat reservations in Coach A, Seat 8 and the service was operated by NRailwayNENL (which I'm guessing stands for Northern Railway North East Northumberland Line) instead of Northern as I was in a rush.

If you have purchased tickets this morning from Uber, please double check your tickets and make sure they have been issued correctly.

Hello everyone. Not sure if anyone has experience of this, or has a suggestion what might be a good course of action.

Yesterday morning, I attempted to book a return peak ticket from Basingstoke to Waterloo via the Uber app; during the payment page, it came up with a big red banner saying the request couldn't be processed. So I duly went back and tried again - this time it went through, and I got my tickets to add to my phone.

However, when I got into my seat, I noticed in my email inbox that the first attempted transaction which I got an error message for had somehow processed as a transaction - and sent me a valid ticket via e-mail for. This has ended up charging me an additional peak fare, which I didn't want.

I've tried to find and send a help request via the Uber/Omio form first thing in the morning yesterday, but I wondered if anyone has any suggestions on how else I could get in touch?

I had similar ticket buying and ended up with two sets of ticketes, had to ring them - wasn't too painful in the end.

ubersupport@omio.com has been reliable in terms of receiving a reply, in my experience.

Between today and 16 March Uber are running a prize draw in which one person will be awarded £1000 of Uber credits valid for 12 months.

Only those who've already booked a journey with Uber before today are eligible and every ticket booked during the draw (that isn't cancelled later) counts as an entry.

A bit confused by the start of the 2nd paragraph. The offer (to gain entry into the prize draw) is valid for anyone with an Uber account who books tickets on Uber Travel within the dates mentioned, yes?

As I read it, it is anyone booking between now and 16 March who has also previously booked through Uber. So, if you opened but not used an account until now you wouldn't be eligible.

Exactly. See rule 1c in the relevant terms and conditions:
To enter and win the Promotion the user must have purchased at least one (1) train ticket using the Uber app before 5 February 2026, and purchase a train ticket using the Uber app before 16 March 2026 (canceled tickets will not be eligible).

In fact it also appears to exclude those who made their first bookings yesterday.

The 'SmartSpending' app (which I have access to through my job) is currently offering me 9% off Uber eGift cards, with the offer marked 'Ends in 6 Days', against the usual 4% discount. These seem to load OK to the Uber app as Uber Money to my wallet but I won't be able to try spending them against a train ticket until Thursday so no guarantees as to how useful this might be.

Uber currently offering a one-time 10 per cent discount on gift cards directly from Uber as a Valentine's deal

You (and I) are clearly not deemed sufficiently romantic by Uber to see the offer.
Unlike all Australians, it seems:

Mine tends to show it’ll take the full fare from Paypal, but then deducts the cashback balance (3% of the previous ticket) after I’ve committed to it

Meanwhile, there’s £10 of Uber Eats credit about to expire, and I’m at a loss how to benefit from that, given that likely would barely cover delivery?

I can confirm that these cards can be redeemed against railway tickets. Also you can only buy up to £150 in one transaction, but it allows (at least) one repeat transaction.

Some denominations of Uber gift cards are 10% off on Amazon at the moment: https://amzn.eu/d/00iFkh98

Deal possibly expires tomorrow
Verified just now with the 40%, a £42.40 ticket cost £36.00 (Amazon) + £0.97 (Paypal) + Cashback from last week

I managed to buy £150 with quantity 2

Didn’t want to stake any more - since for example the 3% cashback could be withdrawn - or operators might end up putting deals on advances.

Not to do Uber's job for them, but 10% discount is, I think, market leading at the moment - albeit with the problem that you have to pay upfront for the gift card rather than when you travel.

I'm managing an effective 22% off my train tickets - 10% cashback as an Uber One member, then 10% off the gift cards via Amazon, stacked with an elevated 2% Amazon credit back via my Amazon Barclaycard (doubled from 1% for Spring Deals Days)

Don't forget websites like CardYard ... I've not used any of them yet, but you can get another few % off by buying people's unused gift cards - which I don't think precludes and of the steps you've got

The fun bit is now delay repay turns you journey into a net profit ...

The order appears to be cancelled with no reason, so I'll try ordering one. Twice

Cardyard tends not to have much availability of Uber, although it's possible to get them. However the poster you're replying to is already getting a 10% reduction by buying the Uber gift cards, I would be surprised if you could get better than that from any secondary sale website? Maybe one or two points but surely nothing much? I am open to evidence to the contrary mind...

You could add 1 point approximate equivalent to that if you linked your Uber account to a British Airways Club one. Less if you redeem avios for something other than a flight admittedly, but if that is easier to do then it may be worthwhile.

You don't need to ever travel with British Airways or even travel by air whatsoever to benefit from Avios.
