Bought a ticket this morning on the Uber app from Newcastle to Ashington for today's date and downloaded the ticket to Google Wallet.
Got to the ticket barrier and the ticket wasn't there. It had deleted itself.
Went into the Uber app and redownloaded the ticket and the barriers wouldn't scan it. Kept coming up with an error. Station staff let me through.
The guard on the train scanned the ticket and it came up with an error saying the ticket isn't valid yet. On checking the ticket it is next Monday it is valid on. The guard said it was ok though and let me travel.
Speaking to Uber support online they said they had an issue this morning with their ticketing back office supplier and that some tickets may have been incorrectly sold between 6am and 8am, and that the system is currently reissuing all affected users, however some may have the wrong date, wrong restriction or wrong railcard added to them. They said it was down to the removal of tickets from the GB Rail Sale later today and that the system was incorrectly removing the wrong tickets.
They suggested refunding the ticket at no charge to myself, which I politely declined as I had already travelled, albeit on a different day to the train.
I didn't think much of it at the time when I downloaded the original ticket, thinking it was just a data error but it did give me seat reservations in Coach A, Seat 8 and the service was operated by NRailwayNENL (which I'm guessing stands for Northern Railway North East Northumberland Line) instead of Northern as I was in a rush.
If you have purchased tickets this morning from Uber, please double check your tickets and make sure they have been issued correctly.
