I think I read a thread like this earlier:

Here are my candidates:

Thirsk to Harrogate: SVR via Not Leeds: 15.90, CDR via Not Leeds: 17.10
Add to that all of the 'any permitted tickets' as via York, not Leeds is always quicker.
Thirsk to Thornaby CDR 9.90
Thirsk to Dinsdale SDR 8.90 - Changing most of the time at Thornaby...
Darlington to Newcastle, CDR8.90 via Durham, SDR XC only 10.60 , SDR 10.80 via Durham. All trains seem to go via Durham. Would anyone really not pay 20p more for a much more frequent service?

And, for the Thirsk to Harrogate tickets, does anyone actually get sold the CDR or any permitted tickets I wonder?

But you could well travel with SWT up to Bradford-on-Avon and change there ;)

Ah, but if you're travelling before 0900 then you'd be unable to use your rover. Same with the East Country one yorkie commented on, surely.

There was a First Advance Single for £54 when checking the other day-referred to in post about Preston to Chester tickets!

0845 for NE/NC rovers.

But you could change at Bath.

No way would you be permitted to travel to Bath (epic double backing, around 16 miles altogether) on a Westbury to Avoncliff ticket.

As for the NE rover, well what if you wanted to travel at, say, 0630? No chance of using a rover (except an all-liner and on a couple of exceptions on the NW one) at that time ;)

I was thinking of Avonmouth!

Then you'd split it into a combination of tickets.

It gets worse from Whitehaven and Maryport, the price is £83.10!

Smarty pants. :) But would you realy use the limited SWT service and force a change just to go 1st class on a 158?

Ah yes but would your average Joe Public going to cardiff one day (off peak) and comming back a few days later buy a rover? - I suspect not.

Well aye, pointless move to use the limited SWT service just to get some FC travel on a Westbury to Avoncliff trip.

Most people probably wouldn't buy a rover for a Portsmouth to Cardiff and back journey, agreed. But then most people don't know about rovers anyway.

Staying with the previous Cross Country mention:

If travelling on a Leeds to Edinburgh XC Voyager direct:

Leeds to Edinburgh FOR £313.00- Priced by XC

Either:

Wakefield to Edinburgh FOR £246.00- Priced by East Coast
-or-

Leeds to York- £15.10 FDS x2= £30.20+
York to Edinburgh FOR £189.00- XC Only Total= £219.20-

Just under £100 cheaper than the Leeds-Edinburgh FOR priced by XC...

Speaking of CrossCountry, a large number of "XC ONLY" tickets. One example would be the following:

Exeter St Davids to Paignton (Any Permitted, then XC Only)

FDS: £13.60 - £14.30
SDR: £9.50 - £9.90
SDS: £8.50 - £8.70

...Yes! I know! I'll pay more to limit my options! Ha ha! Genius!

XC Only Bristol-Penzance SOR £76.00
Any Permitted SOR is £71.40

Another fare nobody would buy is Burscough Bridge-Burscough Junction. I am surprised a fare actually exists. They are a five minute walk between each other, but on different lines. I don't actually even think any valid routes have first class on it, yet first class fares exist. £12.60 for an SDR between the two takes you on an epic journey through Southport, Liverpool and Ormskirk!!

Question:
No fare exists for Rice Lane - Walton (Merseyside). This is because they are very close together. If a passenger wanted to make this journey by train is their only option to buy two singles, i.e.

Rice Lane- Kirkdale
Kirkdale - Walton (Mersey)?

Rice Lane and Walton stations should be grouped like Bootle Stns.

You must be extremely lazy to pay rather than walk.

Also, Crewe - Shrewsbury when Chester - Shrewsbury via Crewe is cheaper :?

Can't find a fare Farnbourgh main - Farnborough North

Or

Dorchester South - Dorchester West

So no going to Weymouth and back again - not that you'd want to anyway.

FOR Southampton - Inverness

Not London £616 - Any permited £528

SOR
Not London £280 Any permited £378

ECS and Connections

£168.50

SVR

139.90 -with restriction:

By any train except those
scheduled to depart before
0500.

And that restriction rules out getting the 0452 from Southampton to London. I wonder if that was really the intention, and whether anyone inspecting the ticket would either know and/or care if you got that train?

London to Glasgow SVR, any permitted: 108.40
London to Glasgow SVR, EC and connecting TOC: 183.50

Why do train companies offer these fares? Did Virgin used to be more expesnive?
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
Dewsbury to London terminals anytime single 114, anytime single via Manchester 139.50

The £183.50 fare you quote is good value as it is a First Class ticket, and would obviously be more expensive than the standard class one.

GFS - ANYTIME 1S ECC
00027 - EC ONLY

1 Adult @£ 186.50 = £ 186.50
__________
£ 186.50

First Class Single
From : 1072 LONDON TERMINALS
To : 0433 GLASGOW CEN/QST

Farnborough group stations?

Dorchester South - Dorchester West

Dorchester group stations?

They are group stations therefore fares don't exist?

Although w.r.t Dorchester stations fares via there are allowed to double back between Upwey and Weymouth due to an easement.

No, it's nothing to do with group stations.

Dorchester stations are part of Weymouth group - there are obviously fares between the other stations in the group, Upwey and Weymouth,
