Thanks. Quite healthy use of 68s + Mk5s despite the landslip to the East.

I wonder if we will have this kind of resilience after the 68s + Mk5s have gone from December 2023 ?.

Just a quick note to anyone thinking of doing scarbro today. Dont. Makton level crossing out due cegb upgrading power. 09:30 to around 1400. Affecting the area around it. Service suspended.

(im doing the IT at the lidl store supplied by the same electric feed).

And nobody thought to tell Network Rail? Or maybe they did and it was worse than expected.

Point of order m'lord. "Landslip to the East".
Dewsbury is nearer to the west Coast than the east.
"To the East" depends on the location of the speaker to an extent. If they're in Manchester the landslip is to the East of them.
It's also East of the (admittedly arbitrary) divide that is the Pennines.

How many sets out today? I’m heading out on Friday for my first trip on a Mk5A set before they disappear.

Best you look for options/hope on this thread.

EDIT

It is work on cracks so after it is fixed you might catch TP01 going elsewhere for storage so another set that might need repairs can go to Wolverton. A light loco 68 move to Wolverton could be your possible clue.
Thanks Peter - sorry for the late reply, been away for 8 days!

Cheers,
Lee.

What has happened to 68032 on set 3. It looks to have worked just one day last week, Thursday, ending up in Scarborough 44 late on 1U79. Has it worked since or is it still sat at Scarborough?

Failed outside Church Fenton with 1U80 on Monday, subsequent returned to York and is now waiting to be dragged to Longsight.

Just on my way back from Huddersfield after a trip across the Pennines with 68021 doing the honours. Great noise and pleasant environment but rattly and that air vent at the bottom of the windows is rather annoying. I’ll still miss them and wish I’d had opportunity to do a bit more bashing before they go.

I happen to be at a loose end tomorrow morning and will be in Manchester - do any class 68's run on a Saturday? I think I got one previously, when on the way to the match, on a 0935 or perhaps an 1135 from Piccadilly

EDIT - obviously any information given on the basis that it is "subject to the requirements of the service" and may change on the day!

Looking on RTT at last Saturday’s TPE workings across the Pennines, at least three 68s were in action. Both the services you mentioned were loco-hauled/propelled.
Whether there’s any consistency to the diagrams week to week is subject to the caveat in your EDIT!

Apologies if I’ve missed a post with all this but is there any info on final TPE 68 date/service?

So would that be Saturday 9th?

And if so, full usual diagrams that day or just 1-2?
Who knows. But it has not been running down quite as dramatically as I feared last time I dared to look.

My best guess is it seems more likely there will be cancellations after the change due to shortage of 185s to fill the gaps (or short forms) !.

The planned ASLEF national overtime ban from 1st to 9th Dec and TPE strike on Friday 8th will affect the last week of planned MkV services on TPE. If your planning some trips this coming week maybe a safer option.

What's the betting that due to where units are after Dec 9th and the strikes, there will still be some Nova 3 usage.
After 09/11/2023 it is more likely that any displaced TPE Mk5 sets will just run ECS to Longsight resulting in cancelled services. Might be a delay if Longsight is full - so expect some moves first from Longsight to Crewe or wherever for cold storage.

And stored-where OR what-use next for the ex TPE Mk5s I feel will be the next question coming soon for the new year......

It’s more that I’m already out on the 9th but if I can coincide with any final services or anything then that’d be ideal
