68029/TP12 hasn’t failed.

It’s working today on 1U64/1U67 and then 1U80 1948 Scarborough-Manchester Piccadilly then 5H80 to Longsight.
I had TP12 going to Longsight tonight as well as you. But RTT now shows it finishing at Scarborough station as you state below.
Saturday 28.10.2023
Start of Day position at Scarborough:

68021/TP10

Station

I don't know whether there are three Mk5 diagrams on a Sunday ?.

Thanks for the info @sjpowermac.

Thats very good info for everybody.

Question - Is the 185 diagram included to cover a small chance of a Mk5 set getting on it ?.

EDIT 11:00

I just noticed 1P07 only got to Manchester Piccadilly (with 185106). The diagram continues with 1U32 (185126) from Scarborough to York. There is a VST 1G07 that arrived at Scarborough at the time 1P07 was supposed to (RTT does not allude to what was on it). Seems 185126 is carrying on with the diagram according to RTT atm.

EDIT 17:30

Just spotted these :-

Monday Crewe to Longsight.

Tuesday Longsight to Crewe.

Being used on ridiculously captive and unproductive branch line diagrams right up until the very end then. These things really were a white elephant order.

I have to be honest and say that I am struggling to see either the logic or intent of your post, but I will try.

I know that on the day, allocations appear on Real Time Trains. I posted the diagrams the day before in order to help any enthusiasts that might be reading the thread and wanted to either ride or photograph the Class 68s.

Today, due to engineering work, services between York and Leeds are diverted via Castleford. Capacity on that route isn’t sufficient to handle the full timetable and hence trains from Scarborough terminate at York.

I hope that helps you, but if you have any further questions, I will try my best to answer them for you.

I have to be honest and say that I am struggling to see either the logic or intent of your post, but I will try.

Sorry? I have not asked a question, I have commented that they are still being wasted on York Scarborough shuttles right until the bitter end? If it’s down to engineering work, it’s more forgivable. But York to Scarborough all day is indeed the most captive and unproductive possible diagram TransPennine could create! I’m not sure what’s wrong with saying that; you yourself have criticised TPE for the exact same thing.

== Doublepost prevention - post automatically merged: ==

I know that on the day, allocations appear on Real Time Trains. I posted the diagrams the day before in order to help any enthusiasts that might be reading the thread and wanted to either ride or photograph the Class 68s.
I know that, and that’s very kind of you… what’s that got to do with me saying TPE aren’t using them on productive workings?

Being used on ridiculously captive and unproductive branch line diagrams right up until the very end then. These things really were a white elephant order.
It's obvious that TPE are not running the same timetable as what was planned when these were ordered.
Due to Covid and the more recent issues with staffing the timetable is much reduced hence stock utilisation.

They were also meant to replace half the 185s which never went off lease.
In hindsight they shouldn't have been ordered, but hindsight is a wonderful thing, and no one could have predicted global events.

The 701s are even more of a white elephant, they ordered far too many for the current level of service, and they are yet to enter service, at least the 68s have actually been used in passenger service

The Mk5s usually do services across the Pennines as well, at least enough to get them to/from Longsight.

The very end for the Mk5s is June 2024 (lease ends) BUT their use finishes at the December 2023 timetable change. Or will it !.

But it is a sad state of affairs, blame Covid and a new design vs an established design (80Xs). But will TPE manage without the Mk5s ?.

Yes, the advance notice can be very useful for those of us who have to travel far. It is either that or look at RTT at 3am in the morning and make rushed plans (coach at dawn in my case) involving little sleep.

Yes, I am used to seeing the Mk5s get across the Pennines and thought this weekend must be different - pesky engineering work, how dare they .
In reality I feel sorry for those out in the field this weekend - not very nice weather for outdoors :!:.

FTR the restriction of use at Leeds has now been extended to Friday 3rd November and still covers Platforms 12, 14, 15, 16 & the Through Line.

If and its a big IF locos remain on diagrams today then 025 & 029 end up at Scarborough this evening.
029 ends up on the depot so this one should come out tomorrow for the 17:48 Scarborough to Leeds.
025 should end up stabled in the Station overnight along with a 185 as it stands, one works the 05:48 to Leeds & the other the 06:48 to Manchester.
The Longsight/Manchester starters won't be known until the morning.
However things change during the day so the best thing to do is to check RTT in the morning for all the allocations.

Wow.... 2 Nova3 links over the pennines all day. Are things improving?
Just varies from day to day, most of the time it's down to how many sets those in charge of the sets at LO can be bothered to allow out and if the sets they do put out actually work, there's been a few instances lately with sets coming off there making it to Piccadilly then seemingly having issues (not all set/loco issues either, human error issues) LO then just say return the set back to depot which leads to a 185 picking up the diagram instead.

Seems to have settled down during October to one set starting its diagram from Manchester and one set ending its diagram in Manchester both with the few long trips Scarborough/Manchester during the day. The third set stays on the East side of the Pennines.

Logic implies that for three sets to be out each day there will be :-

First set starting from Manchester,
Second set doing a days worth starting and ending in Scarborough and
Third set on its way back to Manchester.

Also bear in mind that if a set fails to start its day from Manchester then that means three days in a row will be one set less than three. Exception is if a set on the third diagram, so due to return to Manchester, cuts short and finishes at Scarborough. Then there will be three the next day.

It does seem that the east side is more capable of running the Mk5s. I think there are plenty of trained staff at the York/Scarborough end. The weakness is getting the right staff to run across the Pennines. Bear in mind that a crew don't do the whole journey Machester to/from Scarborough. I think crew change happens at York but maybe also Leeds. That is the way TPE wanted it - crew learning less routes (well mileage thereof). But there lies the path to inflexibility.

EDIT 14:05

I know 68027 + TP13 came back from Crewe to Manchester on Monday 30/10/2023.

Yesterday a set went to Crewe from Longsight (edit 68026 + TP05).

Today a set went from Crewe to Longsight.

EDIT 17:55

In fact FOUR sets out Monday AND Yesterday (Tuesday) !.
TP02, TP09, TP10 & TP12.
Just done my homework.

Thanks, does anyone know which set would now be with 68028 ?.
TP07, 030 was meant to go onto that set last week but had coupling issues.

In a change to the earlier allocations 68021/TP10 is currently working 1K42 20:43 SCA-MCV vice 025.

Time to keep an eye out for the diagrams of TP07, my last set - if it finds a working railway to run on (storms) !.

Apologies if this is covered further back in the thread, but how are these workings routed? Presumably one of the workings takes an unconventional route, as otherwise both would be oriented the same way?

Or is it just a typo with the L/T?

expect it's a typo, loco would be on the rear to Scarborough but leading onto the depot.

028/TP07 are expected to remain on the depot for the rest of the day now as P1 at Scarborough is now signed out of use to all movements* P/way were not able to inspect it as planned earlier due to 68023/TP09 being stabled in the platform, 68023/TP09 are *authorised to leave the platform and will now work
1U64 1548 Scarborough-York
1U67 1803 York-Scarborough
5U78 2023 Scarborough-York
1U83 2203 York-Scarborough

Both 1U80/1K42 are 185's this evening to due train crew not signing 68's.

Currently 68025/TP02 & 68028/TP07 are on Scarborough Depot.

68023/TP09 & 68029/TP12 will end up stabled in Scarborough station overnight so just the 4 sets down the Coast overnight.
