At 1014 we catch the returning 502 bus and ride to Chirk station, arriving at 1034 on Wednesday morning

North-East Wales is just as good as South-West Wales for scenic bus routes and we note that our recent bus rides have been good for anyone wanting to visit the National Trust properties at Erddig and Chirk Castle, so onwards by bus it is and we board the 1043 GHA service 64A to Llangollen (Market Street) that arrives at 1103 on Wednesday morning.

We take the opportunity of a longer ride on the TrawsCambria X94, leaving at 1145 and arriving in Barmouth Jubilee Road at 1335 Wednesday afternoon

We are undecided at first, but find there is an onward bus connection (with a good length of ride) due very soon, so we forget any thoughts of rail and revert back to our original plan of using local buses and we board the 1350 Express Motors service 38 to Tan-y-bwlch (Oakley Arms) that arrives there at 1445 on Wednesday afternoon.

We make our way, pausing for breath at intervals as we slog up the hill, to the Ffestiniog station for the 1540 departure to Porthmadog, arriving 1620, Wednesday afternoon

After a heritage rail journey as that, we spend some time looking around the site area, before going to the bus stop where we board the 1716 Express Motors service 1 to Caernarfon bus station that arrives there at 1805 on Wednesday afternoon.

We catch the Padarn service 89 to Llanberis Interchange, arriving at 1849 Wednesday evening

Padarn Bus have a good presence in that area and we do not have too long to wait for our onward bus connection and we board the 1911 Padarn Bus service 85 to Rhiwlas (Bro Rhiwen, Waen-Pentir) that arrives at 1933 on Wednesday evening.

Well the next bus out on the same service is at 2020 so we take it to Deiniolen, Rhydfadog, arriving at 2030 Wednesday evening

Inching ever northwards, we have not to long to wait for the 2059 Padarn Bus service 83 to Llanrug (Station Square...off Station Road) that arrives there at 2111 on Wednesday evening.

We find there is not too long to wait before Arriva bus 85 leaves at 2146 to take us to Bangor, rail station, arriving at 2228 Wednesday evening

A bus ride to Ynys Mon suddenly takes our fancy after having a good meal to restore us, so we board the 2310 Arrive Cymru service 62 to Amlwch (Lon Goch) that arrives there at 0002 on Thursday morning.

An early start sees us on Lewis y Llan's 61 bus at 0655 to Holyhead. We alight at Morrisons Penrhos at 0731, Thursday morning

An excellent time now to pay a visit to the county town of Ynys Mon and we join with the morning commuters in joining the 0746 Arriva Cymru service 4 to Llangefni (Post Office on Church Street) that arrives there at 0838 on Thursday morning.

We spend a couple of hours exploring the town, partly searching in vain for a service from the (closed) railway station, then catch Eifion's Coaches 45 bus at 1040 to Rhosneigr station, arriving at 1108, Wednesday morning

Time now to visit the unspoilt south-west area of Ynys Mon with its woodlands and sandy beaches, not forgetting its great historical past, so we have just over 30 minutes to pass the time at the railway station, not for a train, but for the 1147 Eifions's Coaches service 25 to Aberffraw (Post Office on Bodorgan Square) that arrives there at 1200 ...Wednesday noon.

Padarn bus 42 takes us onwards, departing at 1259 to Llanfairpwll, A4080, arriving at 1335 Wednesday afternoon

After sighting the famous station nameboard, we decide the bus is still the mode of travel to see Ynys Mon, we take the 1353 Arriva Cymru service X4 to Menai Bridge (Wood Street) that arrives there at 1359 on Wednesday afternoon.

We spend a while admiring the bridge, then some unseen force prevents us from leaving the island, so we catch Arriva's 4A/4 bus (advertised as through) at 1427 and travel to Trearddur, Bay, arriving at 1541, Wednesday afternoon.

The sightseeing continues apace today and we cross over the road to catch the 1602 Arriva Cymru service X4 to Rhostrchfa (Holyhead Road) that arrives there at 1644 on Wednesday afternoon.

Unfortunately I can find neither a departure at that time nor a destination with that spelling in any of the 3 timetables I've looked up

Rhostrehwfa maybe? But the X4 leaving Holyhead at that rough time (1600) skips Trearddur and runs via Penrhos instead

We do indeed appear to have a problem, as Traveline Cymru gives a choice of timetable and journey planning to choose from. I tried to make telephone contact with them, but to no avail, as they are not open until Monday morning.

Odd - the three timetables I accessed were Traveline Cymru, (journey planner and timetable) Anglesey CC and Arriva's own. All gave the same results in greater or lesser detail - no X4 at Trearddur, and no 4/4A at Trearddur at that time

Not sure why we should get different results.

What worries me is where I obtained the name Rhostrchfa from now..:roll:...........but it looks like some of the Welsh railway station names that we have come across on the Closed Stations Journey quiz.

I truly am most embarrassed by this most unfortunate matter, as I usually am so precise to double-check before committing a posting to print. This looks like the result of a most chronic attack of "Senior Moment Syndrome" brought on by a relapse caused by "Lybster Omnibus Syndrome"...

We should wait now until Zoe makes her decision, as with all honesty, I do not feel that I should be allowed to make the next posting.

We spend nearly an hour at this picturesque bay with its small island that is available at low tide and remember the cricket pitch just over the way from the beach where we were part of a team in a friendly match in 1969 that played there for Middleton 2nd XI v a team from Holyhead (which we lost badly) but made up with our commiserations in the Trearddur Bay Hotel afterwards. Reminiscences...the standby of the elderly, when all does not go as it should. We board the 1640 Arriva Cymru service 4 to Capel Sardis (Bodfford) that arrives at 1719 on Wednesday afternoon.

NOTE....I have four independent witnesses who have all seen this particular journey in print on two different websites.

Any way we find Eifion will take us, after not too long a wait, on his 45 service, departing at 1735 to Rhosneigr station, arriving at 1758 on Wednesday evening, thinking to ourselves 'do we come here often?'

Not learning anything whatsoever from the vagaries of bus travel over the last 24 hours, we take the short walk from the railway station to the bus stop on Mostyn Street, where we board the 1949 Arriva Cymru service 12 to Kinmel Bay (Sandy Cove, Foryd Road) that arrives there at 2044 on Wednesday evening.
