Newport Square.....rather a somewhat cryptic destination with the settlement name not being shown, even for the service 412.....

The full address of that last stop, according to the timetable at the stated arrival time of 1512 is.....

Castle Hotel, Bridge Street, Newport.....this is the settlement of Newport that is not too far removed from Cardigan.

Not really finding much to see in this small settlement, we decide to backtrack our route until we find somewhere with more onward options and we are guided in this by a local who says that a large hospital which services much of the surrounding area has quite a few routes to and from it, so we return to the Castle Hotel on Bridge Street, where we board the 1524 Richards Bros service 412 to Withybush Hospital, Fishguard Road, Withybush that arrives there at 1618 on Monday afternoon.

Not long to wait for one of the wider choice of routes, so we continue at 1640 on Silcox 381 service, alighting at Pentlepoir Fountain Head at 1724, Monday afternoon

We find to our only mild surprise that there is onward transport in the form of the 0031 ATW departure that takes us to Fishguard and Goodwick, arriving at 0120, Tuesday morning

We are nothing but persistent in our belief that we will see much of this part of south-west Wales, as we have done so far recently and as it is far too late to attempt to book in anywhere for the night that is near to this newly reopened railway station, so we make ourselves as comfortable as we can then as dawn breaks, we stretch our legs for a walk and soon we find an establishment catering for the ferry traffic drivers where we enjoy a full Welsh breakfast before making our way to the bus stop to board the 0745 Richards Bros service 412 that arrives at Cardigan (Finches Square/St Mary Street) at 0826 on Tuesday morning.

We decide to head north east, again on a Richards Bros bus. This time it's the X50, which departs at 0850 and takes us to Aberaeron Alban Square, arriving at 0930 on Tuesday morning

Time affords us the opportunity to take an early leisurely mid-day meal, then we return from whence we came, to board the 1327 Mid Wales service 588 to Aberystwyth bus station that arrives there at 1359 on Tuesday afternoon.

Just imagine, there was once a direct rail route to Aberystwyth from south-west Wales, as regular contributors on the Closed Stations Journey quiz have established and used as a route on one of the legs, in the past.

We establish that a trip on the Vale of Rheidol is not practical today (just one minute to catch the only afternoon train) so we explore Aberystwyth for a while and than catch the 1530 ATW train to Wellington, Shropshire, arriving at 1744, Tuesday afternoon
