With no suitable alternatives on offer at this time of night in Hattersley we return on the next Stagecoach Manchester service 201 (probably the same bus we arrived on) at 2217, alighting at Belle Vue (Hyde Road / Belle Vue Station) at 2252 Monday evening.

We walk the 3 minutes walk down the long incline from Hyde Road down Glencastle Road to the railway station and next board the 2330 Northern service to Strines that arrives there at 2352 on Monday evening.

However, with that being the last stopping train, and after a quick consultation with our RealTimeTrains app revealing only five trains passing the station, we decide to call it quits for the night. We then wake up and climb aboard the 0604 Northern service to Manchester Piccadilly, arriving back into the centre of Manchester at 0644 on Tuesday morning.

Carefully noting the minimum connection time at this large station, we are relieved that time is not of the essence, so we board the 0727 XC service to Brockenhurst that arrives there at 1158 on Tuesday morning

However, after almost leaving our bags on the train, we are dismayed to see that our connecting XC Voyager has pulled away from the platform. As a result, we are forced to wait for the 1215 SWT service to London Waterloo -however, we bail only two stops along at Southampton Airport Parkway - the time being 1248 on Tuesday afternoon.
While on board the train, we ensure we have all of our documents, our super-passport and lots of foreign currency for a long trip out of the country.

BR Times, with that particular link being for a Monday (tomorrow, in fact, 8th June).

Darlington is classed as a medium interchange station, and so the minimum connection time is seven minutes.

Therefore, the first available service we would be able to take at this point would be the 1940 to Manchester Airport, as our service from Southampton arrived at 1931.

BR Times shows the minimum connection time for every station in the country.

Another member on the quiz, Bodie, who isn't quite on here as much as he used to, created an international version of this quiz via private message. We started playing it but I think one of us gave up! I'll have to find it again and I will start it from scratch and include you in it!

Anyway, back to home turf, we exit the station and transfer to the Metrolink. Services on the Metrolink only commenced to the airport on 3rd November 2014. We board the 2219 Metrolink service to St Werburgh's Road, arriving there at 2252 on Tuesday evening.

Should be just enough time to walk around the corner to the bus stop where we'll board the Number 85 bus operated by Stagecoach Manchester, which arrives just after 23:03 (stop not a timing point). We take it to the University of Manchester (Phoenix), where we leave this bus at 23:22 on what I ascertain is Tuesday evening?

I was going to suggest a night out at the Union at this point, but if we've lost track of the day perhaps it's not such a good idea

The nearest bus stop is Wilbraham Road/St Werburgh's, and the 85 comes at 2307. For future reference, if you use the Traveline North West site for journeys in the north west, the option to list every bus stop on a route is available.

We won't decline a few drinks in the Union, even though I lost track of what day it was, although that was mainly due to the delay at Darlington earlier on!

Anyway, taking the short walk to the Upper Brook Street/Booth Street East bus stop, we then board the 2331 Stagecoach Manchester service 50 to MediaCity UK/The Quays, arriving there at 2358 on Tuesday evening.

Yes, this was originally from Kings Cross but that move was cancelled so the subsequent move needs to be struck through too.

So, we're stuck in MediaCity UK it seems. We check into the Holiday Inn, before starting our travels the next morning from MediaCity UK Metrolink stop, where we get on the first tram of the day at 05:59. We alight at Piccadilly Station (Metrolink) at 06:21 on this fine Wednesday morning.

WWe enter the airport and decide where to go. Seeing how the queue for Air France is almost non-existent, we head over there and check onto Air France Flight 1669, leaving the airport at 0845 and touching down at Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport at 1115 Wednesday morning (UTC+1)

We make our way through the immigration hall. The officer takes quite a while checking our passports, then says: Excusez-moi, monsieur, s'il vous plaît voudrais vous venir avec moi?

We are escorted down a dark corridor, and wait in a darkened room for some time. Then, an imposing figure enters. He introduces himself as Inspector Sidorczuk from Interpol and states:
"The use of cars, taxis, planes or helicopters is not allowed.
The playing area includes only mainland Great Britain. This includes any landmass connected to Great Britain by bridge or tunnel (excluding the Channel Tunnel)."

We are detained and promptly repatriated on Air France Flight AF1068 to Manchester International Airport, leaving at 13:05 local time, which touches down 13:30 local time on Wednesday afternoon.

Assuming we took the direct connecting train from Oxenholme, arriving Windermere at 1556....

The light summer evenings mean we have opportunity to enjoy some fine Lakeland scenery from the top deck of a Ribble Stagecoach bus, so we go to spy some golden daffodils.

We board Stagecoach Cumbria & North Lancashire service 555 outside Windermere station at 1604, alighting in Grasmere (Village Centre) at 1635 Wednesday afternoon.

Unlike Rob Brydon & Steve Coogan, we are in time to visit Dove Cottage.
(Any concerns about what time we arrived in Windemere, the later train would get us into Grasmere on a 555 running exactly one hour later.)
