Cheers. I'll take the round and let Ivo decide on the points. I won't be appealing for a repeated answer deduction as Sonic had less time than he should due to me typing less.

Clue 1:
This station is served only by TOCs who's common trading name gives a clue to their geographic sphere of operation.

I don't think VT trade as Virgin West Coast these days, I certainly didn't consider them as fitting clue 1 when I set the clue.

I think you have misunderstood. The company name is West Coast Trains Ltd, however they trade as Virgin Trains.

Sonic, I will let Ivo adjudicate as to whether you receive a penalty. Certainly for my intended interpretation you should, it is just down to whether I have worded the clue sufficiently well or if Virgin trade as Virgin West Coast these days.

According to wiki. Virgin were awarded the franchise at the start of privatisation as Virgin West Coast, and it has been unchanged since.

In the early days of the franchise, there was some reference to Virgin West Coast, presumably to avoid confusion with Cross Country. However, I have not seen any mention of it for a long while, though I would be happy to be corrected.

They aren't really trading as such though. I was aiming more for the name published on company marketing literature, public website, timetables, departure boards, the side of trains, etc. I suspect I have worded the clue poorly.

That is also fair enough. I can't reasonably enforce a Penalty for either a dud clue or a dud response however.

Over the last couple of weeks there have been numerous calls for some revisions to the Rules, for instances such as the Rainham Rule (and situations in which people accidentally omit certain parts of names where the Rainham Rule does not take effect) and also the notion of the term "Pass" being a valid answer.

Therefore, I shall be opening a CONSULTATION phase for the rules of Name the Station.

Everyone, when you have a chance, please take a moment to read through the Rules and respond with any amendments you would recommend no later than 1800 on Wednesday, June 13th. These responses can be posted either here or by PM, and can relate to entirely new Rules or revisions of existing rules. I will then revise the official Rules accordingly.
