The same can be said of the 455s, they're perfectly good units which are being replaced. Same again with the 458s

I agree with you in respect the 455's, but not with the 458/5's as I work
both traction types!

I'm not sure it's been mentioned yet, but I had a refurbished 158 recently, and the universal toilet was a next gen vacuum system rather than the old water powered gravity led system. That must take some money but I'd assume it's a benefit in the long run as they'd not need to be tanked/emptied as often.

Last time I was at The Oracle in Reading, I noticed that the Gents had had vacuum toilets installed.

Last time I was at The Oracle in Reading, I noticed that the Gents had had vacuum toilets installed.

I'd imagine the actual vacuum bog, the vacuum pump, the labour and the rewiring are fairly expensive.
