Presumably it's still in it's half finished state (orange grab handles, first left in it's old location, etc) from when it debuted on TV?

No idea. Was going past me a bit too fast to see! I expect so.

A bit of twitter searching shows some orange handles, so yes, looks like it's been pressed into service as is again

Has it been painted or Vinyled, anyone know?

As I understand it, they have a grey base coat, and then vinyls over the top to achieve the stripey effect, as well as the dark blue patches

Mostly Glasgow-ish. Mostly.
Was on 450111 this morning. It feels a bit of a hybrid for sure. Orange grab handles, new seat covers (was that blue 'pleather' I detected in Standard? Hard to say as I was stood all the way). Mixture of old SWT and new SWR stickers inside. Didn't feel much different, just a little more drab and it was too busy to really tell if there was any sort of deep clean involved.

It's all vinyl, surely? The 158/159s certainly are anyway. There may be an undercoat, but I don't see what purpose it would serve?

Better protection against the elements and minimisation of "bubbles". When FGW started to refurbish the 150s and 166s, they preferred to paint them in plain FirstGroup blue rather than vinyl them wholesale, as moisture could get trapped in air bubbles beneath the vinyl and accelerate the corrosion.

Granted, but I don't think there is a single part of the SWR livery that isn't vinyled, perhaps other than the vehicle ends, but in the context of 450111, I expect that it'd have been painted into grey undercoat first and then had vinyls over the top.

AIUI, that seems to be the case. Pics I've seen circulated (but kept private) have confirmed that the 442s are having it done in a similar fashion; undercoat first, then vinyls over the top.

Here is the current set up on the 444s. You’d have thought they could have cleaned the rest of the sides up first though.

That seems terrible, worse than on the blue & red fleets. Obviously a rushed job which you can see the vinyl badly trimmed on the bottom left.

This shouldn't matter so much as many 444s would very soon get refurbished in the new SWR livery to concide with the new December timetable, the 442s' return and 701s' debut. They may as well leave the SOUTH WEST TRAINS logo as it is until the refurbishment.

The mock-up I've made here where I would have had the SWR logo all in the SWT royal blue, this blending in nicely rather than the black SWR lettering crudely at odds against the SWT swooshes.

In principle I think the way they've done the "quick" logos for the 444s look very nice; indeed on ones where they bothered to clean it up first, it does look good. At least it's the right colour, not like the 450s.

Looking on Twitter, 1st class is not easily identifiable as they have got rid of the antimacassars and window labels?

The franchise commitment is by the end of March next year, but I would think even that is tight.
Welp, 172 units refurbished over 365 days turns out to be a unit about every two days. So that'll be interesting.

It does seem astonishing that over 6 Months into the franchise there are still plenty of trains still showing the SWT logo. Surely SWR realised they would need some vinyls?

Depends on how many can be worked on at once and how long each one takes. If they can do 4-5 at once and each takes two weeks it could work, but that's probably not realistic.

The progress does seem to have picked up over the past week or so. Probably be all done by the end of April if the current pace continues

Any 158 or 159s with new logos yet?

Fratton Depot still reads 'Stagecoach SWT' unless that's recently been changed

Has 450111 gone back to the works ? The first 444 must be near completion? I'd expect a publicity stunt when that one is released with the plush leather seating

I got a closer look at the 444 placeholder vinyl on whichever unit is named "The Fab 444" this morning. This unit is pretty clean, but a noticeable difference between the white on the vinyl and the body is the vinyl is warm white (has a definite yellow tinge to it) and the body is cold white (has a definite blue tinge to it).
