Using the 458/4s to reinstate the second Pompey semifast each hour would be my preferred solution! But we seem to be stuck with a chicken and egg situation of poor timetable and reduced revenue reinforcing each other to cause an apparently permanent deterioration of the service.

Personally (with no insider information) I think once the majority of the 701s are in service, the 15 minute frequency will be reinstated with the majority of services running as 10.444 and 12.450. Give it 18 months or so (summer 2026?). Hopefully reliability will also see an improvement with the Desiro fleet not seeing as intense utilisation and more time on depot. We shall see. I definitely can’t see 458s regularly going down to Portsmouth though.

Looks like another pair of 458/5 diagram will be served by the 455s form next Tuesday

This is a bit special that is a single unit 458 but normally is made up of two together

There was another single 458 out on Reading services today. Seems to be becoming quite common as more 458s head off for refurbishment.
I think that one was because there was an issue with the other half. I saw an item on journey planner earlier that one of the services was 5 coaches rather than 10 due to an issue at the depot.

Some of the paths for next weeks transfer from/to Widnes are now on RTT. As is normal at this stage, the onward path from Eastleigh to Widnes is yet to be uploaded. This should be 458418 from Widnes and 458511 to Widnes.

Seemed to be an issue with it as it ended up departing 20 minutes late.

The end result being the incoming service from Waterloo ended up on platform 5 for the 25 minutes or so that it takes to turn around. As a result of that, a couple of services coming from Waterloo and carrying on south had to cross over to platform 2.

No idea, just noticed it went past at nearer to 55 past rather than 33 past. And the incoming that arrives around 38 past couldn’t use platform 3 as the 458 was still there.

I expect this is the 2F58 1833 Woking to Waterloo that's being referred to?

If so, I happened to be passing up to Waterloo on this service and we left 18 minutes late due to the driver being delayed by disruption. Control were aware of the expected length of delay and changed the stopping pattern to run stops as booked to Surbiton, then fast to Waterloo, before quickly changing it again to Surbiton and Waterloo only.

It looks like 458401 may be making its debut in passenger service today on 2S13 to Weybridge. There is no allocation shown on RTT for 2S13, because it is a VSTP reinstated train, but 458401 is allocated to the 2S22 return from Weybridge

The onward path for 458511 from Eastleigh to Widnes is now on RTT

Thursday 29th August 2024
5Q95 1831 Eastleigh East Yard to Widnes Transport Tech

One unusual allocation for this evening is for 2*455 on a 2*458/5 diagram to Windsor

21:33 London Waterloo to Windsor & Eton Riverside due 22:26
22:53 Windsor & Eton Riverside to London Waterloo due 23:49 will no longer call at Datchet.
This is due to a short-notice change to the timetable.
Will be formed of 8 coaches instead of 10.

Today this diagram all day 2x455 instead of 2x458. Starts 2H08 05:43 off Teddington and finished 2U76 22:53 off Windsor

Likely SWR wants to replace the last pair of 707s by the pair of 458/5. Then the pair of diagrams Wimbledon - Strawberry Hill overnight then to Wimbledon will be served by 455s. These two

Wimbledon Park depot sdgs 5D11-1D12-2J13-2J20-2D19-2D32-2J33-2J40-2D39-2D52-2J53-2J60-2D59-2D72-2K73-
5K73 Strawberry Hill CSD ->
Strawberry Hill CSD 5H08-2H08-2H07-2H16-2H15-2H24-2H23-2H32-2H31-2H40-2H39-2H48-2H47-2H56-2H55-5H64-2U69-2U76-
5Y68 Wimbledon Park depot sdgs

But that would mean 2U76 has to permanently skip calling at Datchet, so I suspect that there is more to it than that?

Agree that is awful. Why can't they swap a pair of 450's from another diagram? They've got all day to do organise it..

(or even better, finally get the 701's in service)

I don't know, but experience tells me this may be a result of late night engineering work (or a last minute alteration to same perhaps) that will disrupt the last part of the 458/5 diagram, potentially meaning an 8 vice 10 car morning peak train tomorrow morning. Rather than do that, it may have been decided to do a diagram swap late tonight to a) cover the service tonight, albeit with a call at Datchet removed, but more importantly. b) to maintain 10 car formation on a morning peak train tomorrow. As said, that is my ex job hat on, not any insider knowledge as to this particular case in question.

Thanks for the info. Was standing near the end of WAE when I read this and decided to use RTT to see where 8401 was, and as luck would have it, it was sitting in P19 @ WAT :D Only had 9 minutes to get over, but managed it with about a minute to spare, as 8401 was on the front o_O One less to scratch.

458503 was last out on 23.08.24

458514 had a vehicle transported by road to Brodies for corrosion repairs on 28.06.24
