Thank you for this information. Do you know whether the 2*450 liberated by this will replace 2*458/5 or 2*455? I presume another 458/5 will be stood down by the middle of next week leaving just 10 units, so a reduction in their number of diagrams from 5 pairs would seem likely, but I was wrong about that before.
Today (Sunday) is 100% 450 on Reading services, instead of the previous 5 x 450, 1 x 455, 1 x 458/5 pairs so I guess this reflects latest movements?

With the caveat that things can vary a lot on weekends because of engineering work, and weekdays now because of the fluid stock situation Reading should now be:
M-F: 1 x 455, 6 x 450 (One 450 diagram is 455 in both the morning and evening peak.)
Sat: 1 x 455, 2 x 458/5, 4 x 450
Sun: 1 x 455, 6 x 450

There’s a pair of blue 458’s on the Guildford-Waterloo via Woking today. Don’t recall seeing that recently.

Although that could be due to the disruption on the network this morning.

You say that one 450 diagram in the peaks is 455 operated. So that means an increase in 455 operation from this week! The 0609 from Reading etc went from 455 to 450 a couple of weeks ago. Is this reverting to 455 operation?

It's the 0709 from Reading that is a 455 before being replaced with a 450 for the 0850 out of Waterloo. In the evening the 1750 is a 455, with the inbound 1609 from Reading being 450.

Many thanks for that. So 10-car 458/5 replaced with 8-car 455 on what is the busiest train of the AM peak. That's going to be interesting, although there'll be some respite due to the school hols.

And likewise with the 1750 out of Waterloo. Desperation, I would suggest, that they want the standing space of a 455 over a 450.

Not ideal, but 8-455 probably does have more capacity than 8-450, just not very comfortable. It looks like Reading will be mainly served by 8 car trains for a while now as it's not one of the routes to initially get 701s.

As the Wednesday prior to departure for Widnes is the usual stop day, then presumably 518 will get stopped when it arrives at Wimbledon Park tomorrow morning. That will leave 11 units for 10 diagrams, although I do not know what the plan is for 514 and whether it will return to service as a 5xx at some point?

May I please ask where's 508 509 514 thanks

408 is currently based in Bournemouth. It's done various FFR runs in the last two weeks.
509 is at Widnes - in conversion.
514 is at Wimbledon. Well four fifths are. One car is at Brodies for corrosion repairs.
thanks, btw what happened by the means of corrosion?

Pretty much as answered by Monty, then it'll either be storage or scrap for them.
My understanding is the remaining 458/5s will remain in service for the time being, probably at least until we see the 701s appear in real numbers. They can even work in 9 car formations with 458/4s if required.

Who said they can work as 9 cars? I don’t believe this is possible due to the re gearing.
